Exchange Wine Club SubscriptionSangiovese is a red wine grape variety originating in Italy whose name derives from sanguis Jovis, "the blood of Jove". It is most famous as the main component of the Chianti blend in Tuscany, but it is also the central part of many other appellations, like Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano or Morellino di Scansano, to name a few . Young sangiovese has fresh flavours of red fruit and a little spiciness, but it readily takes on more gamey notes, or even tobacco and herbs, especially as it ages.
