Wine lover since 2001! My interest in wine began while touring the factory where they printed the LCBO VINTAGES magazine.

Over time, my passion for wine grew. Now, I am highly regarded by friends and colleagues as a resource for when they need a wine for that special occasion, be it an anniversary, birthday, wedding, gatherings at home, or when they want to impress their special friend or the In-Laws.

Combining my interest in the Internet/web/computers, you can find me at https://vintagewinepicks.blogspot.com where you will find more wine reviews, events and contests.

100% Chardonnay. Elegantly fragrant and ripe on the nose with fresh citrus, apple and pear aromas with hints of lactic and shell minerality. 34% whole cluster. The fresh, medium to medium-high intensity nose offers a lovely nose of crunchy red berry, currant, and spice aromas, along with some stony minerality, plus herbs. It's medium-full bodied with very good concentration and weight on the dry palate. Lovely peppery, raspberry, cran-cherry, and currant flavours dance on the palate. Mild oak spice on the mid-palate, alongside crisp, well-balanced acidity, and supple, fine tannins. Herbal notes join the party on the long finish. Tasted May 2025. Score: 92+ pts

Lovely, open, fragrant & highly aromatic on the nose w/ earthy/stony minerals flecked w/ lemon citrus, apple, pear & herbal aromas, plus touches of pleasant bitter notes adding further savoury characters. Shunka Shusetsu Echizen Junmai Ginjo Sake (720ml) Bottle
Shunka Shusetsu Echizen Junmai Ginjo Sake (720ml)
Japan, World
$29.95

Crafted with rice polished to 50% of the grain and enclosed by screw cap, this has a fragrant, intense, and concentrated nose of rice and mineral aromas with a hint of jasmine. It's light-to-mid-weighted, but gains volume and concentration in the mouth. Dry with peppery spicy and mineral flavours supported by racy acidity, which give way to rice and jasmine flavours. A touch warming, with well-balanced mineral, rice, and peppery spice notes lingering on the long, succulent, and crisp finish. Enjoy this recommended buy well-chilled. Tasted Mar. 2025.

Primarily Petite Sirah. Elegantly perfumed aromas of black and blue berry, dark plum, peppery spice, and cocoa, with some wood spice and reductive notes rise out of the glass. It's full-bodied and well-structured on the palate with juicy, ripe black and blue fruit, pepper, spices, and cocoa flavours with touches of smoky mineral and black raspberry adding further complexity. Acids are fresh, vibrant, and juicy, while the firm tannins are structured and grainy. Nicely balanced throughout with savoury, smoky mineral, and cocoa notes lingering on the very long finish. $75.95

A 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that is fresh, yet seems shy with crushed dark red berry, currant, and cassis aromas with savoury undertones. It’s medium-full bodied on the crunchy palate with tight tannins. Very nice aroma replays on the flavour profile are joined by licorice, and wild herbs. It has fresh acidity and excellent length on the long, balanced, finish. Still a bit young and should age nicely up to a decade from now. Tasted Sept. 2022.

From a site next to the Awatere River on stony and silt soils, this has a fairly intense flinty mineral, citrus, herbal, and lemongrass nose that is a touch creamy on the medium+ bodied palate and balanced with lively acids. Nicely textured and quite minerally on palate with herbal and lemon citrus notes that continue through to the finish with excellent length.
