Wine lover since 2001! My interest in wine began while touring the factory where they printed the LCBO VINTAGES magazine.

Over time, my passion for wine grew. Now, I am highly regarded by friends and colleagues as a resource for when they need a wine for that special occasion, be it an anniversary, birthday, wedding, gatherings at home, or when they want to impress their special friend or the In-Laws.

Combining my interest in the Internet/web/computers, you can find me at https://vintagewinepicks.blogspot.com where you will find more wine reviews, events and contests.

Lanson Gold Label Vintage Brut Champagne 2012, A.C. Bottle
Lanson Gold Label Vintage Brut Champagne 2012, A.C.
Champagne, France
$81.25

A blend of 52% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay that was matured for at least 10 years. The elegant, medium-high to highly aromatic nose exudes elegance with brioche, toasty, mineral, leesy, and citrus aromas, all of which comes through nicely on the dry, textured palate with leesy, brioche, toasty, and honey flavours. The mousse is very fine and supported by very good, balanced acidity. Citrusy, white cherry, and brioche notes linger on the refined finish, with excellent length. Tasted Sept. 2023.

Lovely, highly aromatic nose has flinty-earthy mineral aromas layered over lemon citrus and white floral, with impressive depth. It's medium+ weighted and dry with crisp, vibrant, and saliva-inducing acidity with lovely, ripe, and balanced aroma replays of lemon citrus, flinty mineral, and white floral flavours with a twist of honey and some spice notes. Gently tangy and tart on the mid-palate, while flinty-earthy mineral notes linger through to the exceptionally long, lightly chalky textured finish. Tasted July 2023.

Lovely, highly aromatic and very complex nose is buttery, flinty, smoky, and minerally with pear and yellow apple aromas. It has very nice aroma replays joined by saline notes on the full-bodied, concentrated palate. Acids are well-balanced on the long, juicy finish. Gorgeous! Tasted Jan/2020.

Lovely, highly aromatic nose of petrol, lemon/lime citrus, and peach notes. It's medium-full bodied on the palate, and quite fat with very good, impressive concentration. The lovely aroma replays are off-dry, and supported by crisp, balanced acidity. Excellent length on the long, satisfying finish. Tasted Apr. 2023. Score: 92+ pts

Screw cap. The medium-high intensity nose offers an initial flinty, sulphide, yeasty mineral, and lightly nose tingling experience, but laying underneath are rich, ripe and complex aromas of stone fruit, pear, apple, peach, citrus, floral, and grapefruit with touches of honey. On the rich, ripe, concentrated, and creamy palate are off-dry flavours of poached pear, ginger, honey, and spice. Slightly warming on the mid-palate, but still well-balanced with juicy acidity. Honeyed ginger, citrus, spice, and yeasty minerals linger on the long finish, with excellent length. Tasted Dec/2021.

Organic. Lovely, elegant, perfumed and very complex aromas of red cherry, sweet tobacco, earth, and leather with touches of rosemary, herb, dried rose floral, and balsamic wafting out of the glass. It's medium-full bodied on the palate with savoury, earthy, oak, clove, and red cherry flavours. Acids are succulent and juicy while firm tannins are grippy. Savoury, bitter chocolate, and earthy notes linger on the long, persistent, and grippy finish. While enjoyable now, this should improve further with about 3 years in the cellar and drink well into the early 2030s. Tasted Oct/2020.

Seghesio Cortina Zinfandel 2016, Dry Creek Valley Bottle
Seghesio Cortina Zinfandel 2016, Dry Creek Valley

$61.95

From vines planted in 1972 on gravelly loam soils called Cortina. The medium-high intensity aromatics seem a bit shy, offering subtle bramble, blackberry, and baking spice notes. The full-bodied, concentrated palate is dry and spicy with more dark berry flavours and polished tannins. Vibrant acidity lifts while the long finish has touches of stony minerality. Still quite young and will improve with time. Tasted Apr/2019.

100% Sangiovese. Fresh, medium-high to highly aromatic nose is a touch funky, but blows off to reveal a complex mix of attractive black-blue-red fruits, clove oak spice, forest floor, and herbal aromas. It's medium-full bodied with elegant tannins and fresh acidity which lifts the savoury aroma replays on the flavour profile. Well-balanced with a touch of grip on the exceptionally long finish. Enjoy to the end of the decade. Tasted Oct. 2023.
