In the pages below, you will find a summary of my tasting notes to supplement much of the written material that I provide. Should I taste a wine and subsequently review that label, I do so because it offers something unique or of interest such as noted varietal or regional character.

Famiglia Bianchi Chardonnay 2010, Mendoza Bottle
Famiglia Bianchi Chardonnay 2010, Mendoza
Argentina
$16.95

Not a complex wine but a very enjoyable one. The nose is full of white fruit: ripe apple and pear while the palate is initially quite soft followed by a touch of heat on the finish due to the whopping alcohol factor of 14.5 %. (northof9finewine.com, June 20110

Conde De Valdemar Reserva 2004, Doca Rioja Bottle
Conde De Valdemar Reserva 2004, Doca Rioja
Spain
$18.95

Enjoyed our last bottle of this label with roast turkey and all the fixings - a match made in heaven. The nose is rich with cinnamon, cedar, and dried red fruit; a touch sharp on its own but with the complexity of food flavours, the wine integrates seamlessly with a dry finish and a hint of spice. Tasted Nov 2011

Roux Père & Fils Gevrey Chambertin 2009, Ac Bottle
Roux Père & Fils Gevrey Chambertin 2009, Ac
Burgundy, France
$29.90

There's a lot going on in the glass, that's for sure, but this, and most '09 red Burgundies are not ready to drink just yet. This example, from a very reliable producer is slightly disjointed in terms of tannin structure and acidity and needs to lay down until at least 2013 to sort itself out. Lots of potential here, just give it some time...

Pedro Escudero Fuente Elvira Verdejo 2009, Do Rueda Bottle
Pedro Escudero Fuente Elvira Verdejo 2009, Do Rueda
Spain
$15.95

The night grape. The juice of the Verdejo grape is high susceptible to oxidation and is therefore harvested at night when the ambient air temperature is cooler to prevent premature oxidation of the grape must. The Verdejo variety produces wines that are both soft and full on the palate showing a combination of tropical fruit and the occasional nutty characteristic intertwined with a spicy finish.

Yalumba Y Series Riesling 2010, South Australia Bottle
Yalumba Y Series Riesling 2010, South Australia

$10.95

This is really quite refreshing. A clean, slightly off dry Aussie Riesling, but not as sweet as many other examples; delicate on the palate and full of lemon-lime goodness with a touch of white pear. Tasted Mar 2012.

Mom always makes a cherry pie for the holiday festivities and as I raised this wine to my nose that is exactly what I thought of… cool eh? On the palate, the 14.5% alc/vol is well integrated into the medium to full body showing dark fruit, leather and a good pepper spice shiraz finish.

Mission Hill Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, VQA Okanagan Valley Bottle
Mission Hill Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada
$27.95

A powerful but well made wine in every respect. Tightly wound at the moment with bitter dark chocolate; cranberry red fruit and currants plus a pronounced graphite mineral edge and chalky finish. Tons of potential here and it does open up in the glass, but this bottle needs time. Decant 2-3 hours before serving or cellar until 2013+. Tasted May 2012

Spice Route Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Wo Darling Bottle
Spice Route Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Wo Darling
Swartland, South Africa
$15.95

Probably the most aromatic wine I have come across in a while. Pale straw colour in the glass with just the slightest green highlights. The nose vaguely reminds me of sweet and sour soup at the Chinese buffet while on the palate, zesty passion fruit and some typical herbal flavours accent the exotic aromas. A nicely balanced Sauvignon; try it with an Asian dish.

Domaine Grand Veneur Les Champauvins Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2009, Ac Bottle
Domaine Grand Veneur Les Champauvins Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2009, Ac
Rhône, France
$18.95

An interesting hit of stewed figs and black currant that quickly changes to aromas of pencil lead/graphite. It is quite earthy to taste with intermittent sensations of cherry and plum. This in no way reflects the jammy fruit bombs of the new-world but it is equally tasty though from another perspective. Enjoy it with beef short ribs or hard cheese.

Kurt Darting Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese 2008, Qmp Bottle
Kurt Darting Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese 2008, Qmp

$19.95

More sweet and stylish than I prefer from a Spatlese level wine; perhaps even slightly overdone, but still quite enjoyable. Ripe apricot and a sight honeyed texture combine with just enough acidity to hold it together.
