Two Oceans Shiraz 2009
South Africa$9.95
A juicy wine with lots of plum and dark berry fruit tinged with a hint of sweet spice and deeper aromas of leather and dark chocolate. Smooth tannins on the palate round out in a balanced, almost sweet finish.
Oyster Bay Brut Sparkling Cuvée, New Zealand, Charmat Method
New Zealand$23.95
With a fine, delicate mousse, this is a great deal for a sparkling wine. Aromas of apple, mineral, and citrus are followed on the palate with a fine, delicate mousse and a hint of grapefruit on the finish. Crisp, refreshing, and hard to stop at just one glass.
Domaine La Croix Belle Cuvée Syrah 2008, Vin De Pays Des Côtes De Thongue
Languedoc, France$12.95
Notes of earth, lavendar and eucalyptus compliment the dark cherry fruit aromas; silky on the palate with a slightly sweet spiced finish, this is a lovely, warming wine for cool autumn days.
Grooner Grüner Veltliner 2010, Niederosterrich
Austria$13.55
Simple with some crisp grapefruit, lime and minerality on the nose; light and round with a tart, pithy finish.
Henry Of Pelham Sauvignon Blanc 2009, VQA Short Hills Bench
Ontario, Canada$13.95
Asparagus and fresh grass on the nose along with some grapefruit and hints of richer pineapple and peach. It's a little minerally with a roundness on the palate that is balanced out by a long, tart white grapefruit finish.
Casal Thaulero Sangiovese 2009, Terre Di Chieti, Abruzzi
Abruzzo, Italy$8.25
Juicy in the mouth with plum and cherry fruit; a hint of leather; a hint of black olive, and medium tannins that leave you with a mild, raspy mouthfeel. This is a nice, simple red wine that is a steal.
Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Western Cape
South Africa$11.95
A nice example of a lush Cabernet Sauvignon, full of dark berry fruit on the nose, and on the palate. The fruit is complimented by spicy notes and an earthy/gamey depth. There are those tell-tale tannins, but they are quite smooth and gentle making this quite easy to drink with, or without food.
Flat Rock Cellars Twisted 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.95
A blend of Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Chardonnay, this white has definitely got a crisp bite on the palate with plenty of citrus fruit and even a slightly bitter finish. All that tartness is balanced out with a hint of honey, mango and a little minerality: great for a warm evening's sipping.
Silver Point Sauvignon Blanc By Cooper's Creek 2009, New Zealand
New Zealand$13.95
In the glass this wine has got those tell-tale New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc things about it: asparagus or pea shoots, and grass mingling with some crisp citrusiness, all topped off with a gooseberry overtone. Light and zingy. Good value.
Cono Sur Sparkling Brut, Bio Bio
Chile$7.95
A bit of Riesling in the mix gives this bubbly a delicate profile with mineral, honey, lemon on the nose and a crisp, bitter finish. The mousse is very lively in the glass but then mellows on the palate. Fairly well balanced and a great warm afternoon sipping wine, if you're feeling fancy.
