Rémy Pannier Rosé D’anjou 2010, Loire Valley, France
Loire, France$13.95
Early summer fruits abound in the glass: strawberry, raspberry, cherry. There's a light, sweetness on the finish that compliments the tart fruit, and the acidic kick leaves the palate refreshed.
Strewn Cabernet Franc Rosé 2010, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$11.95
Berries, berries, berries like the ones that come from the field, fresh picked and sun-warmed. A sprinkling of lemon adds some freshness and livens up the honey-kissed finish. Easy to drink.
Kacaba Summertime Series Rebecca Rosé 2010, VQA Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$14.95
A simple, crisp rosè that's perfect for afternoon sipping. Light aromas of sour cherry, rhubarb, and lemon are given a little depth with a hint of earthiness. The tart finish leaves the palate refreshed and looking for more.
Farnese Daunia Sangiovese 2010, Abruzzo
Abruzzo, Italy$8.45
Plummy and ripe tasting with leather and tobacco notes, this is a great inexpensive drink that is round on the palate with balanced acidity that makes it a good food wine.
Sue Ann Staff Semi Dry Riesling 2008, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$14.95
A rather heavenly petrol aroma makes way for some yellow apple, mineral and lemon; refreshing, there's a little viscousness on the palate from the residual sugar. It all ends well with a balanced, sweet apple finish. It's so light this wine would be great with brunch.
Château Camplazens Syrah 2009, Vins De Pays D'oc
Languedoc, France$13.10
A little bottled sunshine from the south of France that's all warm, smoky and inviting. An initial whiff of Christmas cake is accompanied by lots of dark berry fruit, some black liquorice, and tobacco. All that fruit goes on and on in your mouth with a tinge of bitter chocolate.
Alianca Vinho Verde 2010
Portugal$8.95
Very simple aromas of green apple and citrus with something a little earthy coming through that seems a little out of place. Crisp and effervescent however, it finishes with a lime kick of acidity.
La Cuvee Mythique White 2010, Languedoc
Languedoc, France$9.25
I found this to be a so-so wine. There's some allure in the honey and floral aromas but I found it lacking a bit on the fruit side of things. The palate is a little thin, but I liked the bitter after-taste that was in balance with the supple texture and hint of honey that followed through to the end. I'd drink it again if it was chilled well and I was sharing it around the campfire.
Elio Filippino Arneis 2010, Doc Langhe
Piedmont, Italy$15.95
Light, acidic, and not too complex on the nose with citrus fruit and a mild floral touch followed by a hint of sweet peach. The round, balanced body of the wine makes it a good bottle for easy, afternoon sipping.
Rosehall Run 'sz' Sullyzwicker White 2011, Ontario
Ontario, Canada$7.55
Very light and crisp, this wine is all about the lemon and the green apple with a zingy finish. It's not too complex, but would make a great partner for some light fare, or the brunch table.
