Mezzomondo Rose Sparkling
Puglia, Italy$13.40
Oh I didn't mind this. For the price I think it's quite drinkable. There's something a little candied about it, but not without a crisp, citrusy and mineraly backdrop to hold up the cherry, and melon fruit. A tart, and slightly bitter - like lime- finish. Cheap and cheerful.
Marqués De Riscal 2009, Rueda
Spain$12.80
A light, aromatic wine with a floral nose backed up by some tropical fruit, honey and peach, slight minerality, and a bit of earthiness. Round and smooth with just a little acid, this is easy to sip. It finishes off with lingering tropical fruit on the palate.
Two Oceans Sauvignon Blanc 2010
South Africa$9.95
Green apple and lemon up front leading to richer aromas of pineapple, apricot and a hint of grass. There's a roundness on the palate balanced out by a crisp, citrus finish.
Argento Pinot Grigio 2010, Mendoza
Argentina$9.95
A luscious fruity nose with red apple, apricot and pineapple; supple and full on the palate with a flash of grapefruit all perked up by some acidity on the finish. This wine has some body to it which makes it easy drinking - great to enjoy in the backyard on a warm evening.
Cavallina Grillo Pinot Grigio 2009
Sicily, Italy$8.35
Very aromatic with tangerine peel, mineral, pink grapefruit, grass, apple, and floral aromas; round on the palate with a tinge of bitterness on the finish.
Frescobaldi Rèmole 2009, Tuscany
Tuscany, Italy$11.95
A very Italian wine in that it's got some acidity, it's not too full-bodied, and it's more about cherry fruit and earthiness than it is about sweet, spicy oak. It has some soft tannins on the finish and a little liquorice to boot. This would make a good food wine, maybe with some tomato-based pasta to play up the acidity in the wine.
Chateau Des Charmes Aligote, Estate Bottled 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$13.55
In the glass this is a very light coloured wine with aromas of citrus, pear, apple and a bit of grass (oh Spring, now I know where you've gone). At 13% alcohol there's a little mouth coating feel, but that gets followed up very quickly with a zingy finish.
Red Truck Pinot Noir 2009, California
California, Usa$11.95
An earthy wine with lots of sour cherry and a little liquorice on the nose. It's definitely a warm climate style of Pinot in that it's smooth and quite fruity. There are some very soft tannins and a hint of something sweet on the finish.
Bouchard Aîné Beaujolais Supérieur 2009
Beaujolais, France$12.45
A good value wine with lots of red cherry fruit, perfumy lilac aromas, and something like candy apple this simple wine has a balanced, acidic finish that would work well with lots of food. Charcuterie? Grilled ribs?
Union Red 2009, Ontario VQA
Ontario, Canada$13.95
This blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Merlot is fairly light and crisp with bright cherry fruit, a little earth, and some sweet spice on the nose; juicy and vibrant on the palate with a very soft tannic finish. I liked it a little chilled and with my pot roast dinner.
