Farnese Montepulciano 2010, Cerasuolo D' Abruzzo
Abruzzo, Italy$6.15
With an easy, round texture in the mouth, aromas of candy apple, mint, cranberry, a wee bit of earthiness, and something just a little floral, this is a very likeable bottle of wine. It leaves a crisp, tart feeling, reminiscent of crab apple, on the palate. Very likeable indeed.
Malivoire Guilty Men White 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$14.95
A lovely bottle of white for easy sipping! A blend of three grapes, it gets some round texture, ripe tree fruit and a little pineapple and nutmeg from the Chardonnay balanced by citrus and finishing acidity from the Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. I like!
Norman Hardie County Pinot Noir 2008, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$39.00
Earthy; cherry and fennel and minerals and mint are also all part of what's in this glass of wine. Very aromatic. Light and pale, the vibrancy of the wine hasn't at all been compromised by a little time in my cellar. There's a smooth quality that makes a lasting impression of peppered cherries on the palate.
The Foreign Affair Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$34.95
Sweet rich aromas of prune and dried cherry mingle with smoke, mushroom, tobacco, dried herbs, cocoa... I could go on. There is a lot going on in this glass of wine. Delicate tannins greet the palate and a mocha, spicy finish lingers. You could have a rich lamb stew with this wine, but why ruin it with food.
Montecillo Crianza 2007, Rioja
Spain$12.45
A nice example of a Tempranillo from the Rioja region of Spain. There's an earthy, dried herb quality to the aroma with lots of dark fruit and a little leather. It tastes mainly of the deep berry fruit with nice structure (acid and tannin); there's a gentle mouth-coating feel from the tannins that gets released with ample acid. A pretty good food wine!
Solar De Líbano Crianza 2006, Doca Rioja
Spain$11.95
Easy to drink with earth, sour cherry, liquorice, thyme, and vanilla aromas. Smooth tannins accompany a juicy, cherry finish.
Segura Viudas Brut Reserva Cava
Spain$17.95
A fine, frothy mousse with appetizing brioche, mushroom, mineral, green apple and lime in the glass; a great party starter
Zuccardi Q Tempranillo 2006, Mendoza
Argentina$19.95
A vibrant ruby colour with berry fruit, liquorice and earth on the nose. The tannins are nicely balanced with some mouthwatering acidity and the long fruity finish is tinged with just a hint of mint.
Château De Montgueret Cremant De Loire Brut, Loire Valley, France
Loire, France$22.95
Pear and citrus on the nose are complimented with a fuller biscuity aroma and a touch of minerality. The mousse is lively and the wine has a crisp finish. This would be a good sparkling to pair with food. Brunch anyone?
Josef Chromy Pinot Noir 2009, Tasmania
Australia$19.95
Pale coloured in the glass, but with a medium texture on the palate. Aromas of sweet cherry, tea and earth are enhanced by subtle tannins and a long, fruity finish.
