Farina Valpolicella 2016, Doc Bottle
Farina Valpolicella 2016, Doc
Veneto, Italy
$14.95

Here's a nice Valpolicella showing good typicity for the appellation. Fresh and ripe cherry, spice and pepper, framed by good acidity, medium body and milder tannin. Good length. Not overly complex, but a very friendly table wine. March 2018.

Famille Perrin Reserve Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2018, Ac Rhone Bottle
Famille Perrin Reserve Cotes Du Rhone Blanc 2018, Ac Rhone
Rhône, France
$14.95

The pale lemon almost watery colour belies some heft in weight for this Cote du Rhone Blanc that over delivers. Aromas/flavours of white flower, mandarin, peach, apricot, licorice and a bitter garrigue herbal element. A slight alcohol burn on the very good length. Great value. Nov. 2020

Sella & Mosca Riserva Cannonau Di Sardegna 2018, Doc Bottle
Sella & Mosca Riserva Cannonau Di Sardegna 2018, Doc
Sardinia, Italy
$19.95

A reliable Cannonau (Grenache) from Italy's second largest Island - Sardegna. Fairly intense nose of roses, red berry fruit, anise, earthy forest floor, cedar and baking spice. Replays on the palate with vanillin thrown in. Chalky tannins, high alcohol, medium plus acidity and ok length. Offers decent complexity for the price, but depth and length lacking somewhat. Good value while on sale. March 2021.

Frisky Zebras Seductive Shiraz, Western Cape Bottle
Frisky Zebras Seductive Shiraz, Western Cape
South Africa
$13.95

A good value and approachable shiraz that should please a crowd if a large gathering is on hand for a summer bbq. Typical S.A. entry level shiraz with up front spice, fruitiness, not a great deal of length nor complexity, but acceptable as a party red when meat is on the grill. Grip it n' sip it. June 2013.

Creekside Pinot Grigio 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula Bottle
Creekside Pinot Grigio 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$14.95

I'm not a big fan of Pinot Grigio but this Creekside Estate version offers bountiful Niagara fruit aromas and flavours. My novice schnoz picks up apple, peach, lemon and lime. The fruit carries on nicely to the palate. Ok length with some minerality wrapped up by tart, slightly bitter acidity. Quite versatile as a sipper and with a variety of food. Picked it up on sale at LCBO making it a good value for my bottom feeder budget. Grip it and sip it!

Featherstone Rosé 2011, VQA Niagara Peninsula Bottle
Featherstone Rosé 2011, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$14.95

This coral coloured rose has floral and red fruit aromas. Off dry with cherry and strawberry fruit on the palate, there's some bitterness on the mid length with some heat even with moderate alcohol and after chilling. A decent summer sipper that didn't offend grilled salmon fillets. Grip it n' sip it! June 2013.

A bright and expressive Niagara blend featuring a floral nose with fig, peach, apricot, orange and lychee notes. The mouthfeel is somewhat viscous with medium acidity and good length. A citrusy and slightly bitter finish. A decent sipper and food playmate. Tasted May 2014.

Five Stones Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Kpm) 2010, Margaret River

This is a medium bodied cab with decent fruit supported by measured oak. Quite well balanced with softer tannins and medium to good length. Not very complex, but widely appealing. April 2014.

13th Street Pink Palette Rosé 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula Bottle
13th Street Pink Palette Rosé 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$15.95

Very pretty strawberry Kool Aid colour. A red berry fruit nose with a hint of leesy pastry dough. The palate is mid weight, offering more red berry and cherry fruit followed by a savoury bitter mid to end palate. Off dry, there's some structure here with medium acidity and moderate alcohol. Good length, not overly confected, but not a great deal of finesse either. Nice summer sipper and enough substance to stand up to wood burning pizza served al fresco. June 2014.
