C.H. Berres Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett 2008, Prädikatswein Bottle
C.H. Berres Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett 2008, Prädikatswein
Mosel, Germany
$24.95

This is a serious bottle of wine that is dominated by loads of apple and minerality!! Definitely has a bit more sweetness than I was expecting from a kabinett, but the really bright acidity kept it from being flabby (this wine has a long life ahead of it). The finish goes on and on. Will definitely be buying this one again! Tasted June 2012.

This is an extremely stylish Chardonnay that shows off the ripe apple and buttery notes along with lime and stone fruit. It's medium bodied with a good seam of acidity to remind you this from a cool climate. The length is very good to excellent. Extremely happy with this pickup!!

This is seriously good kiwi sauv blanc! Intense nose of gooseberry, lemon-lime, kiwi, minerality, and a bit of herbaceousness. On the palate, it's a bit richer than I had expected, with mouth-watering acidity and tropical fruit and lemongrass flavours and a really long finish. There is an excellent balance in the fruit, green notes, and minerality in this wine. Paired beautifully with a pasta with tuna, lemon, and caper sauce. Tasted April 2013

This a big, rich, concentrated wine with lots going on. There's a lot of black fruit flavours, but has excellent complexity as it's backed up with black pepper and smokey, meaty aromas. It's full-bodied and very ripe, but the acidity keeps it well balanced. Excellent bottle of wine, excellent value. Tasted October 2012.

This is a crowd pleaser with notes of black cherry, dark chocolate, baking spice, vanilla, and a hint of cedar. Medium to full-bodied with smooth tannins, this wine is incredibly rich yet soft in the mouth. The finish is long with chocolate and black cherry notes dominant. Excellent bottle of wine, amazing value! Tasted October 2012.

Not often that we see marechal foch, but this was quite nice. Quite stinky on the nose, but in a good black fruit, smoke, and earthy way. On the palate, it's quite soft and round with medium acidity. Was really confused when I tasted this blind, but it was really quite enjoyable. Tasted September 2013.

Exactly what I love about good Pinot Gris. Golden colour with an incredibly complex nose of orange, stone fruits, lychee, honey, and spice. On the palate, these flavours continue with the spice coming to the forefront. Full-bodied with a lovely silky texture, it's off-dry (thought it would be sweeter than it is due to the ripeness on the nose) with medium acidity to keep it balanced. Beautiful long finish. Excellent bottle of wine at an amazing price!! Tasted November 2012.

Uvaggio Secco Moscato 2010, Lodi, California Bottle
Uvaggio Secco Moscato 2010, Lodi, California

$14.75

This wine features an extremely aromatic nose of apricot, orange, lychee, ginger and white floral notes. It's not nearly as expressive on the palate, though the fruit and ginger notes are very present. It has medium body and acidity with reasonable length, though there is a slightly disagreeable bitter note to the finish. Overall, it's an extremely pleasant wine and paired nicely with a ginger-laden stirfry. Plus, it's a very reasonable price for a wine from a California producer who is thinking outside of the box of what that state can produce. Tasted March 2013.

Yellow-gold colour in the glass suggests the maturity of this wine. Beautiful nose of peach, mandarin orange, ripe apple, honey, petrol, and mineral notes. Off-dry, was expecting more sweetness on this wine, but the acidity dries it out and keeps it balanced. Has an amazingly long finish with the minerality shining through. A truly tremendous value! Tasted January 2013.

Pierre Henri Morel Signargues Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2010, Ac

$15.95

This is exactly what made me fall in love with Rhone reds years ago. Nice and ripe aromas of dark plum/prune, blackberry, chocolate, licorice, and the typical garrigue/earthy notes of the region. Medium-bodied, it has nice acidity to keep it fresh with good tannic structure. Excellent length on the finish. Big fruit, a bit of earthiness, and a very attractive price. I'll definitely buy more of this. Tasted April 2013.
