Chateau Musar Jeune Red 2009, Bekaa Valley Bottle
Chateau Musar Jeune Red 2009, Bekaa Valley
Lebanon, World
$17.95

Bought this one simply because I wanted to give a Lebanese wine a try. Came away nicely surprised. Juicy, red, sour fruit (cherry, strawberry, and raspberry) on the nose. This continues through on the palate with soft tannins and really bright acidity. Not the most friendly to most palates without food, but it's a really beautiful bottle of wine. Tasted June 2012.

Sella & Mosca Monteoro Vermentino Di Gallura Superiore 2011, Docg
Sardinia, Italy
$15.95

Serious bottle of wine here. Lemon, lime, and stone fruit on the nose. This continues through on the palate with a hint of spice and herbaceousness.Medium bodies, dry and zippy, but also has a slight creaminess to the finish. Beautiful wine for the summer, with shrimp, calamari, white fish, or just by itself. This is a proper bottle of wine. Tasted July 2012.

Bodegas Castaño Hécula Monastrell 2009, Do Yecla Bottle
Bodegas Castaño Hécula Monastrell 2009, Do Yecla
Spain
$12.60

Seriously solid bottle of wine here!! Was looking forward to trying this as I have found the La Casona bottling to be as good as it gets for under $10. Dark ruby in the glass, the nose is loaded with blackberry, tar, and slight herbaceous notes. On the palate, the herbal notes (black tea, garrigue) start to become more pronounced, though in very pleasant manner. The acidity keeps this fresh, while the tannins have some grip. This one could be laid down for a couple years if you wanted, but it's a beautiful wine right now and an amazing value. Will be buying many more! Tasted December 2012.

2027 Cellars Falls Vineyard Riesling 2011, VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$18.95

Here's a Niagara Riesling to get excited about at an extremely friendly price. The nose delivers a ton of green apple, white grapefruit and peach notes with just a bit of petrol. Slightly off-dry, this wine explodes in the mouth with sweetness balanced by the tart acidity with the minerality shining through nicely. Long finish. Definitely grabbing more of this one!! Tasted September 2012.

Barbadillo Solear Manzanilla Bottle
Barbadillo Solear Manzanilla
Spain
$12.75

Such a tasty wine! Very refreshing with apple, nutty, and salty notes. Medium bodied with mouth-watering acidity, this wine begs to be paired with some olives and serrano. In my case, the umami character of the wine paired quite nicely with miso soup and sushi. Phenomenal value!! Tasted April 2013.

Leyda Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Garuma Vineyard, Ledya Valley Bottle
Leyda Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Garuma Vineyard, Ledya Valley
San Antonio Valley, Chile
$19.95

Incredibly zippy and intense sauvignon. As John Szabo stated, there's nothing subtle about this. It's medium-bodied, delivering tons of lemon, lime, and pink grapefruit aromas along with fresh cut grass and a bit of green pepper. It has a richness and spiciness on the palate long with a nice long finish that was somewhat unexpected considering the price. Really enjoyed this. Top-notch value. Tasted October 2012.

Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2011, Doca Rioja Bottle
Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2011, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain
$15.95

Bright, juicy, and incredibly tasty. Alvaro Palacios has delivered up another well made wine that get some people to rethink what Spanish wine is all about. The nose is dominated by plum, raspberry, and cherry, along with a slight herbaceous and cedar notes (reminded me of a good Cru Beaujolais). Tannins are slightly grippy with acidity that keeps it nice and fresh and the finish goes on and on. Really enjoyed this one. Tasted November 2012

Mosel, Germany

Always nice to get a 10yr old riesling! Lots of ripe peach/apricot, honey, and slight petrol, spice, and minerality notes on the nose. On the palate, it's medium-full bodied and is quite plush in the mouth with medium+ acidity with ripe peach, pear, and honey notes on the medium-long finish. Good, but not great, especially for the money. Fans of the riper style of riesling will enjoy this. Tasted April 2013.

Château Peyros Tannat/Cabernet 2007, Ac Madiran Bottle
Château Peyros Tannat/Cabernet 2007, Ac Madiran
Southwest, France
$15.95

Not a wine for the timid!! Lots of dark fruit (blackberry and fig) along with cedar, forest floor, and leathery notes on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, this wine has refreshing acidity and is incredibly tannic (a trademark of tannat). Definitely not for fans of soft New World fruitbombs, but a truly well made, interesting wine. Lay this one down for a few years if you to really enjoy its full potential. Otherwise, decant it and pair it with a steak. Tasted November 2012.

Pierre Amadieu La Grangelière Vacqueyras 2010 Bottle
Pierre Amadieu La Grangelière Vacqueyras 2010
Rhône, France
$19.95

Dark ruby, opaque in the glass. Tons of blackberry, fig, dark plum, along with slight tar and garrigue notes on the nose. The fruit shows its dominance on this wine and it follows through on the palate. Medium-full bodied with a very plush mouthfeel, the tannins are quite apparent but also very ripe. The acidity keeps it fresh considering the ripeness and considerable alcohol. The finish goes on and on. Really nice bottle of wine. Tasted November 2012.
