Falernia Reserva Syrah 2009, Elquí Valley
Syrah
Chile
$19.95 (208371)
Wow! This is an intense, cool-climate Syrah with loads of character. Attractive notes of fresh ground peppercorns, blackberry, raspberry, licorice and tar intrigue on the nose. It’s dry, soft textured with a sleek medium body and a beam of crisp acidity backing the sweet core of fruit. It has very good length on the finish with a nice duet of peppery spice and juicy fruit. big, chewy, brash, lots of black fruit, nice finish, outstanding value!!
This a big, rich, concentrated wine with lots going on. There's a lot of black fruit flavours, but has excellent complexity as it's backed up with black pepper and smokey, meaty aromas. It's full-bodied and very ripe, but the acidity keeps it well balanced. Excellent bottle of wine, excellent value. Tasted October 2012.
This was a dense thriller with blackberry aromas, great fruit taste, and lots of power. Would have lasted longer but ready to drink now with a steak.
Dark fruit, smoke, pepper and bacon on the nose. Rich almost creamy mouth feel of dark fruit, smoke and bacon(meatyness) on the palate with a nice long peppery finish.
Cassis, olive and wood smoke / pitch aromas are echoed in this dense, peppery, medium-full bodied wine. The acidity is there for balance and lending a nice structure and length. A great value to be sure, to s of complexity and interest for the money.
Intense aromas of blueberry, raspberry, vanilla and hints of coffee. Medium-bodied and fruit forward with peppercorn leading to long, smooth finish. Quite well-balanced with refined tannins. Tasty! Tasted Nov/2012.

A scintilating, smoky, spicy, savoury syrah. The tarry/earthy notes do dominate, but there is good structure here with some acidity, smooth tannins and a lengthy finish. Palate delivers pepper, cassis, blackberry, plum, soap and karnatzel (garlic pepperette). I enjoyed it with rib steak sprinkled with Montreal steak spice and grilled veggies. Grip it n' sip it! March 2013.
Nice!
