Borgogno Langhe Freisa 2012, Doc
Piedmont, Italy$21.95
This is a charming little wine. I love the old school label. It's charming because it's light bodied but packs incredible structure and finesse. There's hints of sweet cherries, herbs and tobacco. I loved the grippy fresh finish!
Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Kentucky, Usa$45.95
Sweet vanilla oak with spice, smooth but bold.
Lealtanza Reserva 2009, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
Nice wine with some earthy notes to add complexity. Nice wine but a tad boring in my opinion.
Emiliana Novas Petit Verdot 2011, Colchagua Valley
Chile$15.95
Totally delivers for the price. A big solid wine that somehow has been refined to be smooth...but there's a beast waiting to be set free behind the curtain. Pretty cool expression of Petit Verdot.
Mayu Reserva Carmenère 2009, Elqui Valley
Chile$17.95
here's a wine with some real tension! It's got a strong spicy bouquet - ...blueberry, smoke, jalapeno brandy liqueur, cigar, leather. the palate is surprisingly smooth, but the tension between oaky fruit bomb and earthiness complicates things, but in a nice way. This wine has a little bit for everybody to enjoy. Great finish!
Penley Estate Hyland Shiraz 2012, Coonawarra
South Australia, Australia$19.95
Perfect example of an Aussie Shiraz that displays ripe fruit with finesse and balance.
Château Pech Redon L'épervier 2010, Ac Côteaux Du Languedoc, La Clape
Languedoc, France$24.95
Where do I start? This wine offers a nice old world funky (manure inspired) nose. The start, again is pleasant smooth and flavorful, but the finish is obnoxiously dry and bitter. My wife pointed out that the finish actually tasted like chewing on an aspirin… and after she did, that’s all I could taste.
Muriel Gran Reserva 2004
Rioja, Spain$24.95
Decadent, silky, creamy and lush. I love the satin finish. This is a delicious wine that will impress everybody.
La Crema Monterey Pinot Noir 2013, Monterey
California, Usa$26.95
Meh, nothing special here. Plain and boring and a little hot.
Hartley Ostini Hitching Post Cork Dancer Pinot Noir 2009, Santa Barbara County
California, Usa$27.00
Did I mention how Awesome WineAlign is, I just love this website. Anyway's, it's a relaxing moody Sideways Sunday that calls for a Hitching Post Pinot. It's my first, and I gotta say, its fresher than what i was expecting. This is why I think Niagara is still really so undiscovered...it reminds me of a Niagara Pinot, juicy and full of flavour, but balanced and really fresh and grippy. Well made and perfect for any mood - rainy or sunny outside, this is a pinot that slowly works itself into your life.
