Kenwood Jack London Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Sonoma Mountain Bottle
Kenwood Jack London Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Sonoma Mountain
California, Usa
$39.95

Great tannin structure reminds me of Bordeaux or even the Bella Terra wines from Pondview Winery in the Niagara Region. Finesse instead of jammy. Hints of smoky oak and vanilla-nail polish on the finish. Nice wine with some tension that drinks well now. Not a blockbuster at all, something tells me even California is changing their ways.

Big full bodied wine offering luscious vanilla oak, rich blackberry/blueberry fruit and herbal notes. I loved it!

Achaval Ferrer Malbec 2011, Mendoza Bottle
Achaval Ferrer Malbec 2011, Mendoza

The nose is seductive - perfume like offering fresh cherries, violets and rose petals, herbal cough syrup, mint, cherry-chocolates and more. Very seductive. The palate is smooth and creamy with super fine tannins. It has a long herbal induced finish. Punches way above the price!

Norman Hardie Unfiltered Niagara Pinot Noir 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula Bottle
Norman Hardie Unfiltered Niagara Pinot Noir 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$39.00

Nice smoky, meaty notes that mingle with cherry-tobacco and raspberry with hints of minerality. It stays lean with pronounced acidity and finishes with perfect structure. Needs about three years to round out. This was my runner-up, for the best Pinot of 2013! See the video review at www.niagarawinevideos.com

Oban 14 Yo Highland Scotch Single Malt Bottle
Oban 14 Yo Highland Scotch Single Malt
Scotland, World
$169.95

I really love this Scotch b/c it has a little bit of everything - sweet malt, oak, honey but with smoke and sea salt. All the flavors some how stick out individually making this whisky super complex and delicious. The finish could be a bit smother, but hey I'm just looking for reasons to not rate this perfect.

Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2010, Mclaren Vale Bottle
Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2010, Mclaren Vale
South Australia, Australia
$24.95

As always - a stellar wine! Although I feel the Pirramimma team made this offering more balanced than previous vintages. It's more lean and structured...I still get lots of juicy grapes, black fruits and pipe tobacco (Classic of this producer). But i feel this is a tad more balanced...anybody else think so? Are the Aussies altering their main stream style? Less jam more focus...I think so.

Flat Rock The Rusty Shed Chardonnay 2011, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula Bottle
Flat Rock The Rusty Shed Chardonnay 2011, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$24.95

This has become my go to chardonnay. As David points out, it really offers a little bit of everything. It's creamy and buttery with tropical fruit and exotic wood-smoke spice notes. A creamy texture on the palate that is balanced with freshness on the finish. This is a real complete Chardonnay the bridges together warm and cool climate styles.

Bonacchi Brunello Di Montalcino 2010 Bottle
Bonacchi Brunello Di Montalcino 2010

Sandalwood and cherries. Beautiful fine tannins. Burns like a shot of whiskey. I wouldn't say this is a classic example as it lacks earthiness.

Muga Reserva 2012 Bottle
Muga Reserva 2012
Rioja, Spain
$26.95

Here's a full bodied Rioja that offers a harmonious mix of ripe fruit and wood and just a tad of earthiness on the backend. This seems just a bit harsh at the moment, another two or three years in the cellar would really make this bottle sing.
