Rudolf Rabl Löss Grüner Veltliner 2011, Dac Kamptal
Kamptal, Austria$13.95
I agree with the reviewers. Great value for an easy drinking wine.
Alta Vista Premium Estate Malbec 2010
Mendoza, Argentina$14.95
This is as good as the twenty five dollar Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon I had yesterday. Smooth, rich, maybe a hint of chocolate, this wine grows with each glass. Ready now, in my opinion.
Terra D'alter Arg Aragones 2009, Vinho Regional Alentejano
Spain$14.95
Starts with a flowery bouquet. The taste is subtle, a bit dry but quite smooth. It holds its own well after several glasses. At fifteen dollars, this is a very good value.
Château Roquefort Sauvignon/Sémillon 2011, Ac Bordeaux
Bordeaux, France$16.95
A very pleasant appetizer, rich and slightly sweet. John describes it well. At this price, I will buy some more of this little treasure.
Angels Gate Pinot Gris 2011, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$14.95
Superb. World class taste with no flaws. What a great value.
Buena Vista Pinot Noir 2011, Carneros
California, Usa$24.95
This is a typical smoky, intense fruit pinot noir from Carneros at a great price. I did not notice any heat or bitterness on the finish. No flaws, just great powerful taste. I will pick up some more of these while they last.
Le Arche Atesio Appassimento Rosso 2010, Igt Veneto
Italy$16.95
My first impression was a taste that should not be there. Maybe Appassimento failed to cover up a lack of ripeness in the grapes. But over time I noticed this less, and the last glass was quite pleasant. But overall not a very good value.
Mommessin Chateauneuf Du Pape 2011, Rhone
Rhône, France$32.95
This may not be the most elegant or vital example of a Chateauneuf, but it still is an excellent wine, with lots of that classic peppery taste. I gave it several hours in the carafe, and I had no problem with a bitter or gritty finish.
La Vieille Ferme Côtes Du Ventoux Red 2012
Rhône, France$12.45
My bottle says 2013, and it tastes raw. It has been a long time since I have had wine this mediocre.
Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir 2012
California, Usa$26.95
This is one of our favorites at a local wine bar, which they describe as a fruit and spice bomb. When I saw it in the LCBO I wondered why I missed it on WineAlign. Now I see why. OK, it is not exactly as subtle as a Prince Edward County pinot noir. But if you forget preconceptions of how pinot is supposed to taste, this is very pleasant indeed, and it grows on me as I drink more of it. This bottle is labeled 2013.
