Pléyades Reserva 2005, Do Cariñena
Spain$12.95
A decent wine that grew on me slightly. The carafe made no differrence. Good value for the price, but no way is it a 91.
Domaine Sarda Malet Réserve Côtes Du Roussillon 2007, Ac
Languedoc, France$17.95
Flavourful with a touch of pepper, and a nice finish. Surely better than 87. I will be buying more of this one.
Poderi Di Luigi Einaudi Dolcetto Di Dogliani 2009, Doc
Piedmont, Italy$19.95
I assume I had a bad bottle, because it did not taste right. What a disappointment. Maybe you will have better luck.
Tinto Da Anfora 2009, Alentejano
Portugal$12.05
Sour cherry, plus something I cannot identify but does not belong in wine. I looked again at the reviews to see if there were any code words for that which I missed, but found none. So the reviews let me down this time. I can do much better for eight bucks.
Poderi Del Paradiso Vernaccia Di San Gimignano 2010, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$14.95
Honey and grapefruit, but not too sweet, with a nice finish. Ignore the Kyle Phillips review, this is very nice.
Trivento Amado Sur Malbec/Bonarda/Syrah 2009, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$16.95
Lots of interesting flavours, including some I do not particularly like. I suppose that what green notes are. Note to self: do not buy more of this.
Caldora Sangiovese 2010, Terre Di Chieti Igt
Abruzzo, Italy$9.25
Not really smooth enough to drink on it's own, but it went well with spaghetti.
Tsantali Reserve Rapsani 2007, Pdo Thessalia
Greece$18.95
This one requires some patience. The bouquet had a harsh note, and so did the wine for the first glass. But it really grew on me, the harshness faded and the rich liquorice taste came out. In all, very interesting, but I am not going to run out and buy more of it.
Tselepos Classique Mantinia Moschofilero 2010, Mantinia
Greece$14.75
Delicate, not too sweet, it has a nice little buzz that tastes as if there is a bit of secondary fermentation. With a good finish, there is nothing to complain about here. Good value.
Gran Lurton Corte Friulano 2010, Uco Valley, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$13.90
Initial taste of lemon-lime, followed by other tastes too complex for me to describe, but I liked them all. So good complexity, and smooth. This deserves its 90.
