Ormarine Picpoul De Pinet 2011, Ac Coteaux Du Languedoc
Languedoc, France$12.95
Reasonably refreshing, but not that special. I agree with the two reviewers.
Château Haut Plaisance 2010, Ac Montagne Saint émilion
Bordeaux, France$17.00
I agree with the reviewer's description of the overall taste experience. My first impression was that this wine was very underrated; I thought it was a great example of a Bordeaux. But over time the taste of the wood or tannins (I am not sure which) came to dominate, so my opinion of this wine decreased. I suggest pairing it with chocolate, which worked surprisingly well to improve the drinking experience.
Château Plaisance Cuvée Alix 2005, Ac Premières Côtes De Bordeaux
Bordeaux, France$24.95
The bouquet is a bit musty, but the taste, well, it tastes like a classic Bordeaux. I think "correct" is the word critics use, by which I mean very good. It gets a bit better with every sip. Great value. The label on my bottle is different than the picture here, but it says the same thing so it must be the same wine.
Carol Shelton Monga Zin Old Vine Zinfandel 2010, Lopez Vineyard, Cucamonga Valley
California, Usa$25.95
I had this at my local wine bar, and was amazed by the lush, smooth taste with lots of that Sonoma smokey pepper flavour. The negative reviews here are rather surprising, but explain why I never noticed this wine. I rushed out and bought six of the last bottles I could find. Don't miss out on this bargain.
Between The Lines Pinot Noir Reserve 2012
Ontario, Canada$27.95
This is really good, smooth with no flaws. A top note of liquorice and tobacco, and a red fruit taste. I don't get any tin edge. Pretty good value here.
Riverview Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2013, VQA Niagara On The Lake
Ontario, Canada$12.75
This is very pleasant, especially for the price. Sort of a subdued lemon taste, with no flaws. I want more of this one.
7 Deadly Zins Old Vine Zinfandel 2012, Lodi
California, Usa$24.95
Oh, come on, these scores are too low. This is a decent wine, even if you do not approve of the style. Mochafied is not necessarily a deadly zin.
Rotllán Torra 2010, Doca Priorat
Priorat, Spain$19.95
Wow! Truly smooth and elegant, with an interesting undertone of liquorice. Starts well, and improves over several glasses. This is my favourite of this release, and I just bought some more.
Casa Dea Eva Chardonnay 2014, Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$44.95
I love the smooth, rich melon taste, but I have to agree it is not really worth the price. It is worth buying as a novelty but I will not stock up with this one.
Christian Moueix 2006, Ac St Emilion
Bordeaux, France$21.95
This wine does not have a lot of complexity or finish, but it is very smooth, and I think underrated by the experts. This is a perfect wine for serving to friends who are less knowledgable than we are. I used the. 2005 (yes it was a bit better than the 2006) as Christmas gifts last year and it got rave reviews. I recommend this one.
