Zenato Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2012 Bottle
Zenato Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2012
Veneto, Italy
$52.95

Intense aromas of dried dark fruit like raisins and blackcurrant. There's some grip from the tannins, warmth from the 16.5% alcohol, but all nicely balanced with the acidity. Great after dinner wine. You want to drink this.

Palacio Del Burgo Reserva 2010, Doca Rioja Bottle
Palacio Del Burgo Reserva 2010, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain
$29.95

Medium aromas of plum, tart cherries, cranberries, violets. Prominent vanilla, oak, leather, cinnamon, black olive. The acidity is crisp and refreshing. Medium length of baking spice, pepper, thyme. Tannins aren't overly drying, but noticeable. This wine would ideally be paired with food. It was quite bitter until it was decanted for an hour, then it really opened up. Great value for a quality Rioja.

The aromas are medium and very earthy and herbal rather than fruity. Pine, thyme, anise, jasmine, blueberry, earth, leather. Nicely balanced and refreshing wine with crisp acidity. The tannins grip the tongue for a long finish of pine and thyme. Complex. This one will keep you guessing and interested.

Medium intensity aromas of plum, blueberries, jasmine, black pepper, black tea, vanilla, slate, smoke, barnyard, wet leaves. Smoky peppery medium length finish. Fresh crisp acidity that keeps the alcohol (13%) under control. There's a lot of depth here. It's a nice blend of old world European styles with modern touches. Great value.

Sokol Blosser Pinot Noir 2014, Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley Bottle
Sokol Blosser Pinot Noir 2014, Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley
Oregon, Usa
$37.95

A 2014 Pinot Noir from Oregon. Typical Pinot Noir with earthy woodsy aromas like damp leaves, forest floor, funky wet shoe. Some sour cherry comes through with dried flowers and corriander. It's smooth easy drinking with balanced acidity, alcohol and light tannins. Pinot Noir is expensive and this one comes in at $35 CAD. Overpriced in my opinion, but Oregon is an interesting up and coming wine region so if you like Pinot Noir this will satisfy.
