A forthcoming nose of dried black fruit, dark chocolate, and the elegant complexities of French oak aromas. The palate is very well-balanced with ample velvety tannins, rich body, and a solid, acidic backbone. There is plenty of black and red fruit in its flavour that lasts through the long-lived length. This wine will definitely age well. Feb 2011.

Radiant deep lemon with gold highlight. A diverse mix of melon, peach, caramel, and biscuit nose. Medium-full body with flavours of peach, citrus, and a rounded off with buttery mouthfeel. The acidity cleanses the palate through the long length. Enjoy for now, but it is also likely to develop further (Jan 2011).

Brilliant brass colour with a green hint. Medium-intense nose of honeysuckle, camomile, yellow pear and a hint of antique wood. Medium-sweet with med-high acidity and medium body. Expect flavours of lemony marmalade, golden delicious apple, and peach. The finish is lengthy with a honeyed taste. Still youthful, especially with the acidity. Great value. Oct 2012

Ferngrove Shiraz 2007, Frankland River, Western Australia

The fruit profile is bordering between red and black, rather than the intense black fruit profile of shiraz grown in hotter climates. Think strawberry jam, ripe black cherry, and black plum. Has elements of cocoa bean and a touch of smooth cigarbox from the oak. The palate is plush with an acidic and soft tannic backbone which keeps the wine structured. A nice length. Ready now but will likely hold for another year. (Jan 12, 2011)

Hidden Bench Estate Chardonnay 2008, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula

A brilliant yellow with an intense nose of cooked brown pear and pineapple. The oak aged nuances were of caramel, toast and biscuit. There was a hint of a toasted nut that added a certain earthen profile, almost sulfurous, that married quite well. The heavyweight palate had the cooked fruits at the forefront, but balanced by an acidity that kept the wine well-structured. Great length with a more earthen-type finish. Enjoy now, but will hold.
