H. Thanisch Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spätlese 2010, Prädikatswein
Mosel, Germany
$19.45

There is some great depth to this late-harvest. Medium-lemon with green flecks. Candied oranges and a hint of rosebud on the nose. The medium-sweet palate is in great balance with the acidity and minerality. Very lengthy with flavours of apricot and Mandarin orange. Nov 2012

Dense ruby. Plenty of flavour and is developing well. Black cherry and currant with earthy, smoky, spicy characters. Medium-full bodied with gripping tannin. Showing some refinement and would benefit from decanting to really enjoy.

Castello Di Neive Barbaresco 2009, Docg Bottle
Castello Di Neive Barbaresco 2009, Docg
Piedmont, Italy
$19.80

Medium-pale garnet in colour. Still restrained because of its youth, but nonetheless developing with a mixture of red cherry, saddle leather, rosebud, rhubarb and savory spice. The acidity lift the body to a medium-light weight and the tannin is still coarse – typical of a nebbiolo. Good length. Decant for an hour if enjoying now, or hold for the next 5 years as it is likely to improve. How can you beat this pricepoint?

Pale salmon colour. Nose of rosewater, strawberry rhubarb pie filling, and a note of bread, fresh from the toaster. Generous acidity, in balance with the flavours and the delicate lingering mousse. The nose is experience in the palate and the toasted finish is present. Medium length. Mar 2011.

Acidity balances the hint of sweetness in this approachable Vouvray. Nose of grasses (hay), lemon rind, and subtle apricot. A palate of sweet gala apple, some minerality, and touch honeyed through its finish of good length.

Grant Burge Miamba Shiraz 2008, Barossa, South Australia Bottle
Grant Burge Miamba Shiraz 2008, Barossa, South Australia
Australia
$17.95

Has an intense nose and a generous, weighty palate. Hot climate Aussie Shiraz characters with black currant, blackberry, and a touch of mint. Black cracked pepper gives a spice element. The palate is very round and just barely contains the minimum amount of acid and tannin to hold the structure without feeling flabby. The finish has a good length and at times can feel a bit hot. Can be enjoyed now but will improve once the intense fruit core becomes more integrated. (Jan 12, 2011)

Jacob's Creek Reserve Barossa Shiraz 2007, Barossa Valley, South Australia Bottle
Jacob's Creek Reserve Barossa Shiraz 2007, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Australia
$16.95

Has a very intense ruby colour. The nose is explosive, but straightforward, with black fruit, generous vanillin oak, and that touch of mintiness characteristic of the region. Weighs a ton on the palate with black plum leading the forefront and tones of spices - cinnamon, cracked black pepper, and clove in the background. Can be enjoyed now and it's structure should hold into the near future. (Jan 5, 2010)
