Wine lover since 2001! My interest in wine began while touring the factory where they printed the LCBO VINTAGES magazine.
Over time, my passion for wine grew. Now, I am highly regarded by friends and colleagues as a resource for when they need a wine for that special occasion, be it an anniversary, birthday, wedding, gatherings at home, or when they want to impress their special friend or the In-Laws.
Combining my interest in the Internet/web/computers, you can find me at https://vintagewinepicks.blogspot.com where you will find more wine reviews, events and contests.

Heartland Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Langhorne Creek, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$14.75
Medium-high aromatics offer cassis, black currant, dark fruit, oak, barnyard and leather notes. The palate is full-bodied with nice aroma replay and bright acids. Tannins are medium-firm with good structure. Very good finish length. Screw cap. Tasted Feb/2017.
Achával Ferrer Malbec 2015, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$29.95
Medium-high intensity nose offesr black tea leaf, floral, dark berry, black spices, and hints of black plum. It's medium-bodied on the palate with soft, light tannins and nicely balanced aroma replays plus subtle oak spice on the flavour profile. An approachable fine wine with very good acidity and long finish. Tasted Oct/2018.
Southbrook Triomphe Chardonnay 2015, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$24.95
Stelvin screw cap. Subtle aromas of orchard fruits, earth and yeast. The palate is medium+ bodied with more orchard fruit flavours like apple and pear, with underlying earthy flavours, and ending with slightly honeyed notes. Some interesting salty notes mid-palate. Acids are prickly and juicy, providing freshness. Finish is earthy and dry, with very good length. I would put this away for another year to let it develop further. Serve with only a light chill. Tasted Jan/2017.
Fantini Casale Vecchio Lot Twenty Three Montepulciano Organic 2019, Montepulciano D'abruzzo
Abruzzo, Italy$11.55
This organic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has a medium intensity nose offering aromas of blackberry, cassis, and sweet spices in a slightly honeyed profile. It's medium bodied on the palate with fresh acidity supporting the very ripe, sunny flavours of blackberry, cassis, and vanilla. The structured tannins are somewhat grippy, while woody notes linger on the finish, with good length. Tasted June/2021.
Il Molino Di Grace Chianti Classico 2014, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$19.95
90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino / Canaiolo / Malvasia Nera. Medium-high intensity nose is savoury with earthy and forest floor aromas with hints of blackberry and black plum. It is medium-full bodied with lovely aroma replays plus clove oak spice flavours on the palate. It is very good acidity, while the fine tannins are smooth. Excellent finish length. Tasted June/2018.
Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2015, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$18.95
A 60/40 blend of Tempranillo/Garnacha, this is ripe and fruit forward - purple fruits - on a medium-bodied frame with juicy acids. Tannins a bit rough at the moment, but should settle with time. Finish length is very good. Easy drinking wine to enjoy over the next 2-3 years. Tasted Sept/2016.
2027 Wismer Vineyard Fox Croft Block Chardonnay 2014, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$22.95
Elegant, medium+ aromatics offer nice butter, golden apple, and vanilla notes. Nicely textured with bristling acids on a medium-bodied frame with very nice aroma replays. Just a kiss of sweetness on the flavour profile, finishing with caramel and coconut notes on the long finish. Tasted Mar/2017.
Hazaña Viñas Viejas 2014, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$21.95
A blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano, this has a lovely, maturing, medium+ intensity nose that is savoury, woody, baking spice, tobacco leaf, and barnyard, with hints of dried cherry-berry. It is medium-bodied with complex, wood spice driven aroma replays on the flavour profile. It has very good acidity, while tannis are soft, yet still have some grip. Finish length is very good. Tasted Aug/2019.
2027 Cellars Riesling Wismer Vineyard Foxcroft Block 2016, Twenty Mile Bench
Ontario, Canada$18.75
The medium intensity nose offers orange citrus and some minerality notes, but seems a bit shy. Pleasing aroma replays in a fully off-dry style (i.e. quite sweet) on the palate and lifted by bright acids. Very good finish length. This needs some time to settle and open up. Tasted Mar/2017.
Chakana Estate Selection Red Blend 2014, Luján De Cuyo
Mendoza, Argentina$19.75
Blend of 70% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Dark fruited aromas from the cork - currant, cherry, plum. Medium-high aromatics in the glass lead with florals followed by currant, blackberry, sweet herbs, dark cherry, and hints of wood. The palate is medium-full bodied with structured tannins that are a bit tight at the moment. Bright, juicy acids add freshness. Nice aroma replays on the flavour profile with earthy, mineral and wood notes lingering on the long finish. Age 1-2 years and drink to 2024. Delicious! Tasted Mar/2017.
