Pascal Aufranc Vignes De 1939 Chénas 2013, Ac
Beaujolais, France$17.95
Classic Beaujolais. Seriously smells like a red rose petal. I love that about Beaujolais. Add cherries, strawberries and candle wax and this is a very complex nose. The palate is classy. Sour cherries and red beats dominate. Nice balance and structure to the finish.
Two Sisters Eleventh Post 2011, VQA Niagara River
Ontario, Canada$39.00
Medium bodied with purple fruits and liquorice. Dry on the finish. Nice structure but a tad thin.
Markham Merlot 2012, Napa Valley
California, Usa$32.95
Unfortunately I find this to have too much oak...and i like oak, but it comes of a tad too sweet. It has a little too much burn to the finish so the fruit notes are harder to appreciate. Okay I guess, but at this price I was expecting way more.
Altivitis Ventoux 2011, Ac
Rhône, France$17.95
Pretty spectacular. Brimming with violets, blueberries, black pepper and hot rock. Structured, adds mahogany on the palate and hot stone to the finish.
Jekel Pinot Noir 2012, Santa Barbara County
California, Usa$19.95
Sweet cherry fruit, caramel oak and traces of liquorice and smoke on the nose and palate. Drinks nicely, but does taste a bit sugary.
Luis Cañas Crianza 2011, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$18.95
Cherry, vanilla, smoke but a bit gassy, and astringent with somewhat harsh tannins. Nice wine, but it's just a bit off.
The Prisoner Blindfold 2013, Napa
California, Usa$39.95
Cali styled white blend of Chard and Rhone varietals. Very smooth, oaked and sweet. It's incredibly luscious. It might not win over the critics but it will surely please the crowd.
Villa Medoro Rosso Del Duca Montepulciano D'abruzzo 2012, Doc
Abruzzo, Italy$16.75
Pretty basic. Has a fake sweetness to it and is quite thin and hot on the palate. It does have some tannins, so it's not terrible, just not at all worth 20 bones. Very disappointing...LCBO tag line says "back by popular demand" ...according to whom?
Sella & Mosca Riserva Cannonau Di Sardegna 2011, Doc
Sardinia, Italy$17.95
Seriously for the price, I loved this wine. Score = I'd buy that for a ($14) dollar.
Redstone Sparkling 2013, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$24.95
loved it. Simple, fresh but with a hint of sweetness. I think at this price point, everybody can enjoy some nice bubbles.
