Lacrimus Crianza 2009, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$18.95
A very chic modern styled Rioja that drinks with a smooth classiness. Ripe fruit presents itself a tad jammy on the palate but this is levelled out by refined tannins and balancing acids. The delicious finish compels you to keep sipping.
Bridlewood Pinot Noir 2012, Monterey County
California, Usa$19.95
Much more sophisticated than I thought. Smoky and gamey. Quite rich but composed and structured. Creamy fruit compote with a long smooth finish.
Milbrandt Traditions Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Columbia Valley
Washington, Usa$19.25
Fairly typical American Cabernet. Big, sweet, oaky, but smooth and silky on the palate. I'd give it a higher score but the sweet date, fig component turns me off a tad. Should be $15-20 per bottle...LCBO mark-up - lame.
Dirty Laundry Say Yes Pinot Gris 2013, BC VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$19.95
Fantastic Pinot Gris! Lush with lots of ripe peaches, honey and cream. It's not too sweet though. The palate is full which makes it a joy to drink on its own. Highly recommended!
Henry Of Pelham Pinot Noir 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.95
...gees, at this price, most Pinot's usually suck, however HoP really crafted a quality entry level Pinot in 2012. Firstly 2012 was a hot sunny year, perfect weather for ripening grapes in our cool climate. As a result the acid is balanced out by the sugars and we end up with a smooth velvety Pinot with all kinds of complexities. Cherry, cranberry, roses, smoke vanilla, and just a little earthy funk. Really impressive! This is perfect for an every day sipper.
Domaine De La Garodière Morgon 2012, Ac
Beaujolais, France$16.75
Spectacular for the price. Tannins are really grippy right now so age it for a couple more years.
Mommessin Domaine De Champ De Cour Moulin à Vent 2012, Ac
Beaujolais, France$16.75
classic stuff. Like drinking beet juice. A little to lean and sour edged for me to love it though.
Coyote's Run Pinot Noir 2013, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$18.95
2013 shows astounding quality for Pinot in Niagara and this entry level devil proves it. Pinot loves shade, fog, and generally overcast weather - 2013 was exactly that. So while other Red Varietals suffer, Pinot prevails for once. This Pinot provides jammy Raspberry fruit with light earthy tones and some wet turkey gamey notes. The palate has a "cough syrup" feel to it. Really charming stuff especially for the price.
Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Napa Valley
California, Usa$42.95
Some nice classic Cali Cab notes. Blueberry, Blackberry, cassis, vanilla oak etc. with quality tannins. Not the most complex wine, but surely a fine wine.
