Deep ruby in colour. Violet, cocoa, strawberry jamminess on the nose. Palate has a plushly-weighted body with a firm acidic backbone. Dark chocolate, plum, red cherry and fine silky tannin. Long length. Will open up in a year. What great value! (Feb 2011)

Tabalí Reserva Carmenère 2008, Limarí Valley

Deep ruby colour with plenty of extraction. Nose of black berry and cherry, the slightest hint of red bell pepper which hints that the grapes were well-ripened before harvest. Nice balance of velvety tannin, acidity, and body. Blackberry, spices and smoke. Great length. Classy, and very approachable Camenere. Mar 2011.

An intense blue hue imparts an inky, purpled colour and pink rim. Very upfront nose with strawberry, blueberry, and candy-licorice and a hint of fresh rosepetal. These features follow through to the palate of medium body, firm tannin and a zippy acidity. This is a wine in need of a good food pairing, a fatty/salty meat. (Jan 26, 2011)

Youthful nose of mango, golden apple, and a hint of wax. Dry, with plenty of acidity and a medium body. Crisp granny smith apple flavour turns into a pleasant lime essence on the finish. Good length. Apr 2011.

A very open nose of primarily oak notes of vanilla, sweet spice, honey and toast. Peeling the oak back reveals cooked peach and roasted pineapple. The palate is weighty in body with a supportive acidic backbone. Pineapple, toast, with a nice creamy texture. Buttery finish. The length is good, but there remains a lingering heat. Mar 2011.

Clean but restrained nose, youthful. Red berry fruit predominates and there are notes of earth and wet leaves. The palate is dense with medium-low level of acidity. Juicy red cherry, cedar and char. Didn't have length.

A medium ruby colour. Candied strawberries spring out of the glass, and the rest is filled in by prune, raisin and chocolate. Soft tannin, light acidity and a touch of warmth makes for a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Good balance and medium length with an extra touch of cinnamon stick in the finish.
