De Angelis Offida Pecorino 2018, Docg
Marche, Italy$13.95
Fantastic value for $14. Michael Godel's notes hit this on the nail. Tastes spritzy but isn't, against a backdrop of limestone. Very fresh.
Colomba Bianca Resilience Insolia 2018, Doc Sicilia
Sicily, Italy$16.95
Fairly intense, medium-bodied wine with mineral undertone. Somewhat austere and serious. Interesting for sure.
Marques D La Concordia Viña Alarde Reserva 2013, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$17.95
Very old school, complex nose. Pronounced sandlewood aromas and quite smooth. But a bit unbalanced, a tad too much acidity and it seems a bit thin in the middle. Not a fruit forward wine.
Cathedral Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
South Africa$17.95
Complex and enjoyable but a bit coarse.
Hardys Stamp Series Chardonnay Semillon 2018, Southeastern Australia
Australia$9.75
Seems round and full to start but dies quickly. No length. A bit lifeless (low acidity?), but not unpleasant and decent value.
Cave Spring Cabernet Franc 2017, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Ontario
Ontario, Canada$17.95
Nice. Very subdued with some herbal notes, but still smooth and rounded. Would buy again for sure.
Trius Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$17.95
This review is for 2018, which is not listed. I am quite impressed with this wine. I don't buy a lot of cab sauv (I get my tannins from Portugal) and especially don't buy them from Ontario, where they can be a bit harsh and thin. But this is a very decent effort. Lively, with a smooth finish. Doesn't resort to sugar - quite well made and elegant, but still pretty hefty.
Goru El Blanco 2017, Do Jumilla
Murcia, Spain$13.95
Nothing if not unusual. Quite perfumed and oily, and quite dry. Very assertive and certainly makes an interesting and worthwhile detour. Flowers are us! The low price is a bonus.
Vila Nova Loureiro 2016, Doc Vinho Verde
Vinho Verde, Portugal$13.95
Very nice. A slight spritz. Very clean but slightly rounded. Definitely a bit more heft than the usual vino verde. Excellent value.
Cantina San Paolo Aglianico 2017, Igp Campania Rosso
Campania, Italy$14.95
Light-weight and simple. An oddly sweet but also rough finish. Interesting wine but I am not giving this points for poise.
