Domaine De Fabrègues Le Mas 2016, Ap Pézenas
Languedoc, France$18.95
This didn’t really work for me. Hard, angular, and bruising. Definitely needs decanting. It comes across as almost bitter, but the high alcohol gives an initial impression of sweetness. Wouldn’t buy again.
Maker's Mark Kentucky Bourbon
Kentucky, Usa$47.45
I am pleased to see other reviewers here dumping on Maker's Mark. I have always found it harsh and unpleasant, yet it seems to be generally well regarded. Not for me.
Cune Blanco Reserva 2018, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$18.75
At first brush, I found this overly acidic and short. Day two was much better, whether it changed or I changed, I don’t know. Very traditional with admirable tension from the oak overlay. Interesting detour but needs careful matching with food. Pasta Carbonara was a good pairing.
M. Chapoutier Les Vignes De Bila Haut Côtes Du Roussillon Villages 2020, Ac
Midi, France$16.95
Wow! What fantastic value at the $13.95 sale price. Full-bodied and smooth.
Xavier Vignon Côtes Du Rhône 2020, Ap
Rhône, France$18.95
David’s comment sums this up well; medium weight, easy drinking, and juicy. Very enjoyable desistir the 14.5 alcohol.
Bouchard Père & Fils Mâcon Lugny Saint Pierre 2015
Burgundy, France$21.95
Really, a perfectly balanced wine. Remarkably unobtrusive and poised. Full-bodied, but not assertively so. Enough acidity but you don't notice it. A wallflower, but competently so. Offers something for everyone. Somebody making this wine knew what they were doing.
Quinta Da Pellada D A C Tinto 2014, Do Dão
Dão, Portugal$16.95
I was taken a back a bit by some spritz. Quite lively and good acidity. Usually a fan of the Dao but not sure this really works for me at the price point.
Evel Tinto 2017, Doc
Douro, Portugal$14.95
No great complexity but perfect poise and balance if you like acidity, granite and tannins. Which is why I love Portuguese wines!
Boschendal 1685 Shiraz 2015, Wo Coastal Region
Coastal Region, South Africa$16.75
Dense. good acidity. spicy with lots of fruit. Very enjoyable.
Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Branco 2015, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$16.95
This wine is very acidic, which detracts for me. Clean, but also a bit thin.
