Wildass Riesling 2015, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.95
Quite plush and round, with fairly high alcohol for an off-dry riesling. I agree with Michael's description of "fleshy". An enjoyable riesling in an Ontario idiom.
São Miguel Escolha Dos Enologos 2014, Vinho Regional Alentejano
Alentejo, Portugal$21.95
Dense, coarse and rough, but somehow it works. Not elegance in a glass but I do like the honest acidity and depth. Points given reflect its complexity. Label says it was awarded 93 points, which is ridiculous.
Kacaba Unoaked Chardonnay 2016, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$15.95
Floral, with good intensity. Quite nice.
Mondeco Red 2011, Do Dão
Dão, Portugal$13.95
Fairly light and quite acidic. An undercurrent of earthiness (is this the Baga?). But very refreshing and enjoyable and I will buy another bottle while it is still available.
Vetiver Viura 2014, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$15.95
The tension between the acidity and the oak is quite unusual. Can't think of another wine that resembles this one. Refreshing but with some heft as well. I'd certainly buy another bottle if there was another one left downtown. And if I was allowed to leave the apartment.:(
Boutari Naoussa Xinomavro 2015, Pdo Naoussa, Macedonia
Naoussa, Greece$12.75
I have really enjoyed past vintages but this year is just a bit too acidic and thin. Still, there is still an intriguing sense of something just out of reach..
Alta Alella Pb Pansa Blanca 2016, Do Catalunya
Catalonia, Spain$11.75
Very clean, crisp and refreshing. Slightly spritzy and very dry. Very slight bitterness. Now 30% off, so extremely good value. Wish I had bought two.
Stratus Wildass Sauvignon Blanc 2016, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$15.75
Quite ripe and fleshy. Interesting detour from the usual sauvignon blanc idiom.
Angels Gate Riesling Sussreserve 2016, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$13.25
This one doesn't really work for me. Seems a bit flaccid. Not unpleasant but lacks acidity and zest.
J P Azeitao Red 2017, Peninsula De Setubal
Portugal$8.95
Huge value. Agree with all of the comments above. A tad sweeter than I would like - otherwise I would have given it 88 points.
