Wine lover since 2001! My interest in wine began while touring the factory where they printed the LCBO VINTAGES magazine.
Over time, my passion for wine grew. Now, I am highly regarded by friends and colleagues as a resource for when they need a wine for that special occasion, be it an anniversary, birthday, wedding, gatherings at home, or when they want to impress their special friend or the In-Laws.
Combining my interest in the Internet/web/computers, you can find me at https://vintagewinepicks.blogspot.com where you will find more wine reviews, events and contests.

Henry Of Pelham Speck Family Reserve Chardonnay 2015, VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$29.95
Highly aromatic nose offers smoky buttered popcorn followed by golden apple and pear notes, all of which come through deliciously on the balanced, nicely textured, and medium-bodied palate. Vibrant acids keep things fresh, while the finish length is excellent. Tasted Apr/2017.
La Crema Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2015, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County
California, Usa$34.95
Medium-high intensity aromas of red cherry, raspberry, sweet tobacco, earth and whiffs of black tea and strawberry. The palate is medium bodied and fleshy with a mixed berry medley of blackberry, cherry, and blueberry flavours layered on top of oak spice notes. Some tea leaf notes on the mid-palate. Succulent acids are fresh and juicy. Fine tannins offer a smooth mouthfeel. Cherry, earth, exotic spice, and tea leaf notes linger on the long finish. I really like the subtle tea leaf note that's found throughout. A fine, balanced wine to enjoy over the next 3-4 years. Tasted Sept/2017.
Cave Spring Csv Chardonnay 2015, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$29.95
From 41-year old vines, 100% barrel fermented and aged for 10 months in French oak barriques and puncheons, this has a richly buttered nose of apple, pear, and lemon aromas of medium-high intensity. It has a medium+ body that is rich and buttery with, apple, vanilla and well-integrated oak flavours. Nicely textured with crisp, balanced acidity. Excellent finish length. Still a bit young - age this 1-2 years. Tasted Sept/2017.
Benmarco Expresivo 2015, Uco Valley, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$39.95
Blend of 83% Malbec and 17% Cabernet Franc. Tasted Sept/2017.
Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir 2015, Marlborough, South Island
Marlborough, New Zealand$48.95
Medium-high intensity aromas of sour cherry, strawberry, beet root, earth and mushroom, all of which come through in a nicely balanced fashion on the medium bodied palate. Tannins are light and velvety, while acids are very good. Finishes long and smooth. Tasted May/2017.
Cave De Tain Grand Classique Crozes Hermitage 2015, Ac
Rhône, France$24.95
Cool, medium-high intensity nose is fairly complex with peppery, black cherry, meaty, black plum, and savoury earthy aromas. It is quite dense on the full-ish bodied palate with smooth, refined tannins and just a touch of chalky grippiness. Nicely balanced with more black pepper, black cherry and meaty flavours, plus some stony minerality on the mid-palate. Acids are juicy. Excellent length on the long, earthy-minerally-savoury finish. Enjoy this classic northern Rhône Syrah over the next 3-5 years. Tasted May/2019.
Le Volte Dell'ornellaia 2015, Igt Toscana
Tuscany, Italy$29.95
Blend of 67% Merlot, 20% Cab Sauv and 13% Sangiovese. The medium-high intensity nose offers currants, dark cherry, mocha, cassis, violet and more chocolatey oak aromas, all of which come through nicely on the medium-full bodied palate. Supported and balanced by smooth tannins and very good acidity. The finish length is also very good. Tasted Oct/2017.
Sandeman 20 Year Old Tawny Port, Dop, Portugal
Douro, Portugal$61.95
I found the nose a bit soft, offering raisin, caramel and nutty aromas, but the sweet and very smooth medium-bodied palate is vibrant and full of life with lovely oak spices, caramel, brown sugar and hazelnut flavours lifted by bright acids on the mid-palate. The long, driving finish is very appealing. Tasted Nov/2017. Score: 91+ pts
Argyros Assyrtiko 2016, Santorini
Santorini, Greece$29.95
Lovely, highly aromatic nose features stony, chalky mineral along with lime, grapefruit, and herbal notes. It's medium-full bodied on the palate with a very nice chalky mineral texture, fine acids, and mineral-driven grapefruit flavours. Powerful mid-palate and finishes long and clean with herbally notes. Well-balanced overall. Tasted Nov/2017.
Hidden Bench Estate Chardonnay 2016, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$29.95
Consistently a quality wine, the 2016 vintage has medium-high+ intensity aromatics offering ripe pear, apple, butter, and vanilla notes. It's medium+ bodied on the ripe, crunchy palate with nicely balanced aroma replays, plus some butterscotch flavours. Wood influence is subtle and well-integrated. Acids are balanced, while finish length is excellent. Tasted Oct/2018.
