Cave De Roquebrun La Grange Des Combes 2011, Ac Saint Chinian Roquebrun
Languedoc, France$18.95
JS's description matches my impressions. powerful and distinctive wine with great structure and a nice peppery finish. great value.
Pico Maccario Lavignone Barbera D'asti 2011
Piedmont, Italy$17.95
Lovely wine. lots if fruit and a mild touch of oaky sweetness to balance off the strong seam of acidity. there is some brambly depth here too. I drank mine cool from the cellar, as JS suggested and it was eminently quaffable.
Cono Sur Bicicleta Viognier 2013
Colchagua Valley, Chile$9.95
Have been a fan of this wine for a number of years (thanks to Steve for pointing it out!). This vintage is slightly better than last year with well defined grapefruit pith, lychee fruit and highlights of anise and lavender (definitely agree with Dave on this). balance is very nice with just enough acidic zip on the medium finish. Such a great value.
Keint He Voyageur Chardonnay 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.00
The perfect blend of all round accessible deliciousness with enough structure and complexity to please the more attentive palate. I found the nose a bit volatile, but nonetheless, some caramel notes came through. The moment it hits your mouth though, the flavour explodes with ripe fruit, toasted breadiness and great minerality. The acids kick in on the finish carrying the fruit nicely. Great value chard.
Tenuta Stefano Farina Le Brume Langhe 2009, Doc
Piedmont, Italy$16.95
Really enjoyed the rustic complexity of this wine. Lots of resinous fruit, grippy acidity and tannins make this a super enjoyable quaff for your favourite rustic meal.
Mazzei Ser Lapo Riserva Chianti Classico 2011, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$23.95
Took a bit of time to open, but then a very poised wine emerged with subtle layers of red fruit, spice and herbs reveal themselves on quite a firm bed of acidity. Acidity is off-putting at first, but seems to soften a bit with time in the glass. A wine deserving / needing some contemplation.
Domaine Du Clos Gautier Cuvée Emile 2008, Ac Côtes De Provence
Provence, France$24.95
Great fruit and complexity in a finely balanced and very quaffable red.
Fielding Estate Bottled Chardonnay 2013, VQA Beamsville Bench
Ontario, Canada$18.15
Incredible value in beautifully poised ON chardonnay that hits all the fruit, toasted oak and minerality one would hope for.
Lento Lamezia Riserva 2010, Doc
Calabria, Italy$15.75
Gotta love the honest purity of this wine. Loads of dried red and black fruit with oak driven complexity adding a subtle earthy spiciness. It's super juicy giving it quite a lively palate, and the tannins are very silky offering such a nice mouthfeel. It's just a pleasure to sip and a great addition to the table.
Errazuriz Aconcagua Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Aconcagua Valley
Aconcagua Valley, Chile$21.95
Very generous wine in all aspects but so nicely integrated it doesn't overwhelm.
