Leyda Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Garuma Vineyard, Ledya Valley Bottle
Leyda Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Garuma Vineyard, Ledya Valley
San Antonio Valley, Chile
$19.95

Expect typical Sauvignon blanc profile ... grapefruit etc... but intensely zippy and with an added depth of sweet fresh herbs especially on the nose. Despite the intensity, it feels balanced and has a quite pleasant and very long finish.

Gorgeous steely, stoney wine here. Lemon and mineral aromas repeat on the palate. Good balance, with racy acidity and a long finish.

Boutari Grande Reserve 2007 Bottle
Boutari Grande Reserve 2007
Naoussa, Greece
$18.95

Sour cherry/raspberry nose with loads of supporting woodsyness, liquorice and mild tobacco. The palate is very firm and dry with tart cherry & herbal earthiness. Lots of flavour here wound in an old world kind of austerity that is very refreshing and pure.

Cousiño Macul Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Bottle
Cousiño Macul Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Maipo Valley, Chile
$16.45

Fairly complex aromas of cherry, cassis syrup, mocha, tobacco and eucalyptus lead to a very dense, thick palate. While there is a fair amount of complexity, subtlety is lacking and flavours don't integrate in a balanced or harmonious way. The alcohol is also very pronounced, giving it additional weight. and a fair amount of volatility. Decanting helped but despite some nice things going on, I couldn't finish my glass.

Flavour loaded and quite smooth with a layered but easy drinking structure. Loads of dark fruit, cocoa and sweetish oak influences, but never goes over the top. Great balance and finish. excellent accompaniment to a prime rib roast.

As Malbecs go, this isn't top tier for sure but it's perfectly drinkable with a decent core of fruit and reasonable structure and balance. A decent pizza party wine.

Tessellae Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2011, Igp Côtes Catalanes Bottle
Tessellae Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2011, Igp Côtes Catalanes
Southwest, France
$17.95

Dense and fruit forward with quite a tannic bite. Flavours are concentrated with some complexity but also quite confected which is not something I enjoy particularly. the finish has some length but enjoyment is cut a bit short by the burst of astringency. Still, overall a decent wine for the price.
