Easy drinking chianti here. Aromas of blackberry and raspberry framed by a good dose of olive and scorched earth. It has bright acidity, medium body and medium spicy finish. Not a lot of fruit on the palate but and enjoyable all-round accompaniment to food.

Whoa indeed! Lots of depth here, bordering on astonishing for under $12. The nose is full of toasty, herbal character with a core of rich dark berry and prune. The palate delivers too with great structure, balance and finish. A nice sipper and well made for food. Tasted March 2013.

Expect typical Sauvignon blanc profile ... grapefruit etc... but intensely zippy and with an added depth of sweet fresh herbs especially on the nose. Despite the intensity, it feels balanced and has a quite pleasant and very long finish.

Plummy nose with sweet floral notes. Palate is lush and smooth with ripe red fruit,violet, spice and zippy acidity. Easy drinking but still interesting and nicely textured.

M. Gassier Nostre Pais Costières De Nîmes 2010

There is some impressive character to this wine - fine aromas of black cherry and cassis with nicely layered spice, tobacco and herbaceous notes. The palate is generally smooth, dry and balanced with cherry and spice dominating. However, it's quite hot and the tannins seem somewhat unresolved. I have a bottle tucked away for sampling in a couple of years.

Sour cherry/raspberry nose with loads of supporting woodsyness, liquorice and mild tobacco. The palate is very firm and dry with tart cherry & herbal earthiness. Lots of flavour here wound in an old world kind of austerity that is very refreshing and pure.

Cousiño Macul Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Fairly complex aromas of cherry, cassis syrup, mocha, tobacco and eucalyptus lead to a very dense, thick palate. While there is a fair amount of complexity, subtlety is lacking and flavours don't integrate in a balanced or harmonious way. The alcohol is also very pronounced, giving it additional weight. and a fair amount of volatility. Decanting helped but despite some nice things going on, I couldn't finish my glass.

Very nice nose bursting with ripe orchard fruit. The palate is more restrained, showing ripe berry flavours and good acidity and balance. The finish is quite long with some alcohol heat.Nice summer food wine.
