Montresor Capitel Della Crosara Valpolicella Ripasso 2011
Veneto, Italy$18.95
Incredible! It possesses a juiciness that all Ripassos have, but goes further with earthy barnyard grit and pipe tobacco. This reminds me of a tad of Brunello...but with a richness. Highly recommend!
Barahonda Barrica Monastrell/Syrah 2011, Do Yecla
Spain$17.95
This is a smooth Spanish Mediterranean blend. It's a real serious wine with a low price tag. It reminds me of high quality Gigondas from the Rhone. Beautiful integrated tannins provide a lushious mouth feel. Nose and flavours include dates, herbs, spices, green leaf tobacco, black pepper and smoke.
Villa Annaberta Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2011
Veneto, Italy$16.85
Solid - packed with just enough flavor and structure to please. Sensational for the price!
Viña Tarapacá Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Maipo Valley
Maipo Valley, Chile$17.95
Big wine with classic Chilean notes. Black current, spicy chilli pepper, vanilla oak. Smooth body after an hour decant. Big mouth feel.
The Dreaming Tree Chardonnay 2013, Central Coast
California, Usa$16.95
This is fairly balanced chardonnay that adds a dash of sweet vanilla oak & spice to the sun kissed fruitiness. It's really smooth and delicious with faint vanilla honey notes on the finish. Given the modest price, I highly recommend.
Cesari Mara Valpolicella Ripasso 2012, Veneto
Veneto, Italy$17.95
This is a big Ripasso with masculine tannins. It's very well made and provides plenty of fruit/wood/herb and tobacco notes. It's firm, so let it breath for an hour. Great buy!
Foxglove Chardonnay 2012, Central Coast
California, Usa$19.95
Classic Cali Chard with lots of creaminess and butter.
Creekside Laura's Red 2011, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Remarkable. 2011 is such an approachable vintage for bordeaux blends here in Niagara. I just love the super fine tannins...the wine is packed with black fruit flavours, herbal qualities and nuances of vanilla oak. Tasted April 2015.
Alamos Selección Malbec 2012, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$16.95
Quintessential Argentinian Malbec with a reasonable price tag. Ripe, earthy, balanced and smooth. I love the violet licorice component.
Montecillo Crianza 2010
Rioja, Spain$13.10
Finally a good vintage in Rioja. Haven't had this quality since 2004... a full decade...that's a long wait. Nice full body feel and surprisingly soft mouth feel for a crianza. nice balance and elegance. Buy a boat load while it's on sale!
