Lailey Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$24.95
niagarawinevideos
Tasted the 2011
This is an elegant feminine pinot, light but with surprising breadth to the palate. It starts with smoky plums, cherries, violets and rose petals. Stays elegant, silky and smooth through the mid-palate, then adds touches of sour fruit and grip to the finish. A pretty complete Pinot Noir for $25.
Le Gravillas Plan De Dieu Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2010
Rhône, France$14.95
Although this wine lacks a bit in the flavour department, it more than makes up for it, with its smooth silky texture...Something that I personally adore in wines. This is a brilliant Cote du Rhone.
Creekside Laura's Red 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Every year this blend turns out to be a tasty number...fruity, earthy, oaky and structured.
Vineland Estates Winery Pinot Meunier 2011, VQA Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$17.95
The nose possesses Burgundian funky notes of earth, tobacco, wet leaves, sweet or rotted berries. It has a nice creamy body that adds strawberry jam notes to the palate. It finishes oddly complicated by sweetness & bitter cherry pit. There's no doubt I'd confuse this for a village Burgundy in a blind tasting. Nice stuff, especially for the price.
Viña Eguía Reserva 2007
Rioja, Spain$17.95
Intriguing nose... basil, bay leaf, mint, green tobacco, cherries, vanilla, spices and liquorice. Smooth on the palate with a delicious caramel finish. This is a fairly complex medium bodied Rioja that I highly recommend.
Redwood Pass Pinot Noir 2011, Marlborough, South Island
Marlborough, New Zealand$14.75
Cherry, raspberry, strawberry jam. Quite lush mouth feel, but some heat and bite on the finish. Good value, but nothing special.
Stoney Ridge Pinot Noir 2011, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$13.95
Light and soft with red berry flavours, shows a hint of smokiness to the fruit which is nice. Good value!
Beringer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
California, Usa$49.95
This is a nice structured California Cabernet with fine grained tannins. Oaky vanilla notes mesh with blackberry, cherry and cedar. For the price however, I would take a Hess 19 block cuvee - which offers so much more.
Château Moncontour Vouvray Sec 2011
Loire, France$18.95
A fruity style of Chenin Blanc with some grapy sweetness and honey. Finishes dry with some chalky minerality.
Rosewood Pinot Noir 2011, VQA Twenty Mile Bench
Ontario, Canada$20.00
Nice cherry, dried fruit and herbs on the nose and palate. It's really smooth and caressing with a little pepper on the finish. Probably needs a year or two for the flavours to develop, but who can wait...amazing value. (21.95)
