D'angelo Aglianico Del Vulture 2009, Doc Basilicata
Italy$17.95
first note - decant for an hour...okay now classic notes appear... spicy cherry, barn yard, earth, tobacco, charcoal, wet wood and vanilla must... and a hint of citrus (orange peel?) . Palate is smooth but dry...offers loads of pipe tobacco. A tad thin, but that's normal for this varietal. Classic and respectable.
Maetierra Dominum Qp 2006
Rioja, Spain$19.95
Dried rose petals, dried fig, ripe cherries, spice, vanilla, wet wood, barrel must. The palate is perfect weight...finishes with super fine saw dust tannins. Everyone will appreciate this fine wine.
Tabalí Reserva Especial 2011, Limari Valley
Limari Valley, Chile$18.25
Big, strong and grippy. Dark fruits and cassis mostly with well integrated vanilla oak. Missing some elegance, but then most blends from Chile are about power.
Tormaresca Trentangeli 2012, Doc Castel Del Monte
Puglia, Italy$19.95
This is a wonderfully balanced wine with suave tannins. Packed with blueberry, vanilla and smokey dark roast coffee. Medium weight. Super super fine tannins make a sandpaper finish.
Gérard Bertrand Côte Des Roses Rosé 2013, Ap Languedoc
Languedoc, France$18.95
Loved it! It's fresh and citrusy.
Rivera Il Falcone Riserva Castel Del Monte 2008, Doc
Puglia, Italy$24.95
Concentrated black fruits dominate this inky wine. There's also an earthiness with old world barn yard funk. Lots of herbs and spice. The palate is super dry and structured. Nice tight finish as well. Highly recommended!
Fielding Estate Bottled Chardonnay 2013, VQA Beamsville Bench
Ontario, Canada$18.15
Great cool climate notes pulling though on this Chard. Melon and pineapple fruit with vanilla oak and a real saltiness on the finish. Smells cool!
Perrin Les Cornuds Vinsobres 2009, Ac
Rhône, France$15.00
Wow I didn't expect this much quality from a low priced Perrin & Fils. Thankfully it was recommended by Vintage staff, or else I would have passed it by. Lush and delicious. What a great Rhone wine at an amazing price. Violets, cherry concentrate, hint of bitter coffee and wet rocks come to mind.
S K N Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Napa Valley, California
California, Usa$16.95
jammy, and loose around the edges, burnt wood and overcooked bluberry jam - goopy fruit. not balanced. this is a big fruit bomb that lacks quality.
Henry Of Pelham Pinot Noir Speck Family Reserve 2012, VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$34.95
Nice, but really needs more time to age. For me the flavours are muted by the harsh tannins at the moment. This is built incredibly solid with really grippy tannins so Im sure as it ages it will release some wonderful flavour complexities. Give this about 4-6 years.
