Delaforce Touriga Nacional 2011
Douro, Portugal$17.75
An absolutely stellar wine! Full of complexities and big big super drying tannins. Expect black cherry, sweet pipe tobacco, scorched earth, cigar char, barn yard, vanilla, cedar, ash, charcoal and mineral on the finish. Serious QPR here!
Rivera Il Falcone Riserva Castel Del Monte 2009, Doc
Puglia, Italy$24.95
I really loved this wine for it's old school earthy brett characteristics. It has nice spicy cherries and some floral notes. Nice weight to it as well. I could drink this all night, but the first couple sips are always the best.
Penthouse Pinot Noir 2013, Adelaide Hills
South Australia, Australia$12.25
As always, give this wine time to breath and drink it out of a nice burgundy stem and it blooms into a well balanced and quite diverse Pinot. Smokey strawberries and tomato plant waft out of the glass. The palate is light with classic Pinot developed tannins. Great buy!
Coyote's Run Rare Vintage Chardonnay 2013, VQA Four Mile Creek, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$24.95
Nice full bodied Chard. Sweet and buttery. Maybe a tad off balance but delicious all the same.
Château Pey De Pont 2009, Ac Médoc
Bordeaux, France$17.75
Great nose! But fruit is a little shy on the palate. Structured with nice tannins. I'm guessing this one needs more bottle age to develop its flavours.
Hollick Shiraz 2008, Red Ridge, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$19.95
That's what I like to refer to as a professionally made wine. Hollick always crafts such classy wines at great prices. Great balance and structure with hints of deliciousness to add character. Nicely done!
Lealtanza Reserva Selección 2007, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
One of the better wines from Rioja's poor 2007 vintage. Cherry, vanilla, woodsmoke, cedar and menthol on the nose, leads to a creamy medium bodied wine. It's full of herbs and spices. The finish is a tad short, dry and leaves a soggy wet wood taste.
Jacques Depagneux Côte De Py Morgon 2011, Ac
Beaujolais, France$18.95
The nose offers an unmistakeable burgundy funk that I adore...violets, red roses, roasted red beets, sugar cane, rocky minerals with hints of marshmallow and mushrooms. The nose is wild and exotic. The palate is supple, soft and clean with noticeable tannin bringing impeccable structure to the wine. It finishes with loads of red beets. I absolutely loved it!
Tenuta Stefano Farina Le Brume Langhe 2009, Doc
Piedmont, Italy$16.95
lots of old world charm providing earthy herbal notes to the cherry/ pomegranate fruit flavours. It's really grippy with extrmely high acid. As a result it's a tad of balance. Still a very authentic well made wine.
Stephane Aviron Vieilles Vignes Morgon Côte Du Py 2012, Ac
Beaujolais, France$23.95
Big ups to this Morgon! The nose is exotic and seductive - very perfumed, showing rose petal, lavender, raspberry, cranberry, spruce tree and soya sauce. The palate is incredibly suave, balanced and structured. It finishes dry with just a hint of sweet and sour. My Lord, what a wine for $20.
