Santa Barbara Winery Chardonnay 2013, Santa Barbara County
California, Usa$24.95
This actually reminded me of a well made Niagara Chardonnay. Very balanced, creamy and smooth.
Domaine De La Tête Noire Cuvée Tradition Vacqueyras 2010, Ac
Rhône, France$25.95
Sweet burnt brown sugar & earthy nose. Blueberries and minerals dominate the palate. Firm, focused and dry. Needs another 3-5 years to develop as most Rhone wines do.
Domaine Dupré Vignes De 1935 Morgon 2012, Ac
Beaujolais, France$19.95
Classic Beaujolais sweet and sour strawberry notes with some smoke on the nose. There's also a faint hint of marshmallow. Light silky tannins. Perhaps not that exciting, but a textbook example of Beauj.
Henry Of Pelham Pinot Noir Speck Family Reserve 2012, VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$34.95
Nice, but really needs more time to age. For me the flavours are muted by the harsh tannins at the moment. This is built incredibly solid with really grippy tannins so Im sure as it ages it will release some wonderful flavour complexities. Give this about 4-6 years.
Viña Pomal Reserva 2010, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$17.75
Tasted blind, I thought this was a Barbaresco. It has super fine tannins, light to medium bodied, very suave. Lot's of smoky red liquorice, then vanilla oak and cherries.
Rustenberg Chardonnay 2013
Stellenbosch, South Africa$19.95
Full, lush and flavorful. Beautifully integrated vanilla/caramel oak, with honeydew, melon, and pineapple and hints of citrus. Dry but Luxurious mouth feel. Totally incredible for $20.
Lealtanza Reserva Selección 2007, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
One of the better wines from Rioja's poor 2007 vintage. Cherry, vanilla, woodsmoke, cedar and menthol on the nose, leads to a creamy medium bodied wine. It's full of herbs and spices. The finish is a tad short, dry and leaves a soggy wet wood taste.
Finca La Cuesta 2011, Do Bierzo
Galicia, Spain$16.75
There's a lot to love about this Spanish Red. Mencia reminds of Rhone varietals. Violets, hot stone, vanilla oak, smoke. Tannins are tight but the palate is graceful with nice mineral notes and blackberry flavours. Great buy, highly recommend!
Henry Of Pelham Estate Chardonnay 2011, VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Offers what most like in Chardonnay - a vanilla creaminess, woodsy oak, honey dew and poached peach/pear...but it also has a little roughness to it... a slight bite and toughness. I'd say this is a masculine muscle man style of chard. It drinks like a smoky scotch.
Foreign Affair Dream 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$29.95
This was my favourite full bodied wine at Cuvee 2016. If you like rich full bodied reds, look no further.
