Kew Vineyards Estate Heritage 2012, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$39.95
This is quite firm at the moment. Lots of cherry-tobacco, cassis, ripe plum - typical Cab flavours. But the palate is quite harsh and burns. I imagine this will soften, so great wine but needs time. Try the 2012 Solder's Grant, it's much more approachable.
Château Saint Nicolas 2010, Ac Cadillac Côtes De Bordeaux
Bordeaux, France$19.95
Impressive for the price. Some funky old world cheese scents, charcoal, blackberry, and cassis. Very dark on the nose. The palate is surprisingly soft but with noticeable tannins. Highly recommend!
Hollick Shiraz 2008, Red Ridge, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$19.95
That's what I like to refer to as a professionally made wine. Hollick always crafts such classy wines at great prices. Great balance and structure with hints of deliciousness to add character. Nicely done!
Rustenberg Chardonnay 2013
Stellenbosch, South Africa$19.95
Full, lush and flavorful. Beautifully integrated vanilla/caramel oak, with honeydew, melon, and pineapple and hints of citrus. Dry but Luxurious mouth feel. Totally incredible for $20.
Lealtanza Reserva Selección 2007, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
One of the better wines from Rioja's poor 2007 vintage. Cherry, vanilla, woodsmoke, cedar and menthol on the nose, leads to a creamy medium bodied wine. It's full of herbs and spices. The finish is a tad short, dry and leaves a soggy wet wood taste.
Viña Pomal Reserva 2010, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$17.75
Tasted blind, I thought this was a Barbaresco. It has super fine tannins, light to medium bodied, very suave. Lot's of smoky red liquorice, then vanilla oak and cherries.
Santa Barbara Winery Chardonnay 2013, Santa Barbara County
California, Usa$24.95
This actually reminded me of a well made Niagara Chardonnay. Very balanced, creamy and smooth.
Fattoria La Pupille Morellino Di Scansano 2016
Tuscany, Italy$17.95
This is totally outstanding for the price. It sports cherry tobacco flavours with super fine tannins. The finish adds just a touch of orange peel, and although it’s super dry it’s also super smooth. Traditional old school Sangiovese and is wonderful in ever sense of the word.
Jacques Depagneux Côte De Py Morgon 2011, Ac
Beaujolais, France$18.95
The nose offers an unmistakeable burgundy funk that I adore...violets, red roses, roasted red beets, sugar cane, rocky minerals with hints of marshmallow and mushrooms. The nose is wild and exotic. The palate is supple, soft and clean with noticeable tannin bringing impeccable structure to the wine. It finishes with loads of red beets. I absolutely loved it!
Donnachiara Montefalcione Fiano Di Avellino 2013, Docg
Campania, Italy$17.95
This is a real darling of a wine. It pairs really well with soft earthy cheeses - both the wine and cheese really come alive...I love that. It's lush and creamy but also crisp and dry. Very versatile. I love the fresh saltiness on the finish, like breathing in ocean air. Mediterranean whites are simple awesome!
