Cune Gran Reserva 2012, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$28.95
Bright ruby colour, not showing much age at all. Nose is similarly vibrant and open, with notes of violets, herbs and dried fruit. Quite light on the palet — only medium bodied — with ripe fruit flavours and the oak supporting and not dominating. Tanins are all resolved but a bit of acid bite on the end, so I’m thinking drink up over the next 1-2 years while fruit is still present. Nice modern style Rioja.
Urlar The Mediator Gladstone Pinot Noir 2020, Wairarapa, North Island
Wairarapa, New Zealand$20.75
Lanciola Le Masse Di Greve Chianti Classico 2013, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$23.95
Traditionally styled Chianti marked by dried fruit and earthy flavours. Quite pale and ambering at this stage. At its peak and not for the long term. Found at bin end for $19 which seems a fair price. Would not have been happy to pay original $24.
Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Organic Sparkling Riesling 2020, VQA Twenty Mile Bench
Ontario, Canada$20.95
Moillard Cuvée Prestige Rully 2015, Ac
Burgundy, France$28.95
Nice med red colour, quite deep for PN. Nose is a bit reserved, with hints of red berry fruit. Quite rich on the palate, solidly mid-weight with nice tart fruit notes (cranberry) and some spice for complexity. Good persistence. Enjoyable now but I suspect will reveal more in a couple of years. Good value in the world fo Burgundy but for a true PN drinker; not a party wine!
