Ruffino Modus 2007, Igt Toscana
Tuscany, Italy$29.95
On the last bottle of four (sigh), this one finally started working for me, revealing its Tuscan origins, with decent complexity. Fruit has faded to reveal earthy notes, and flavours linger. Clearly should have cellared it for longer.
Vineland Estates Elevation St. Urban Vineyard Riesling 2012, VQA Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$0.00
Auntsfield Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012, Southern Valleys, Marlborough, South Island
Marlborough, New Zealand$29.95
A perfectly typed and quite delicious PN. Drinking beautifully now, but lots of time yet.
Matetic Corralillo Syrah 2016, Do San Antonio Valley
San Antonio Valley, Chile$21.95
This needed some time to open up, but quite impressive when it did. First notes where something like a field of wildflowers with lots of rich berry fruit. With time, very nice pepper and herb notes emerged, and it began to track much more like a syrah.
Hidden Bench Estate Organic Pinot Noir 2021, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$37.95
Rocca Di Castagnoli Chianti Classico 2011, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$19.95
This was a very pleasant surprise. Quite deep colour, and full nose of plums and spice. Med to full bodied, with ripe fruit and and just enough tannin to make it a great food wine. Nice modern winemaking while staying anchored in Tuscan soil. Will hold a few years, but it's so delicious now why bother. Very good value.
