G. Marquis The Red Line Riesling 2010
Ontario, Canada$11.95
If you want an uncomplicated, off-dry Riesling that’s about $10, the G. Marquis “The Red Line” 2010 Riesling is a yummy find. It’s in General list so most likely available in many locations. I like my Rieslings with slightly more acidity but the fruit in this wine is appealing with stone fruits showing through.
Peter Lehmann Barossa Blonde 2010, Barossa
Australia$14.00
Plenty of weight with an oily composition. Hints of passionfruit, orange, and lemon pulp. Chill well. Tasted April 2013.
Citra Trebbiano D'abruzzo 2011, Abruzzo
Abruzzo, Italy$8.25
A simple, neutral white. Touch of herbs and slight nuances of orange citrus. You many have to coax flavours out of the glass. Chill well. Tasted April 2013.
Cupcake Red Velvet 2010, Central Coast, California
California, Usa$12.95
A crowd pleasing red blend from California. This wine has lots of fruit, chocolate flavours and a very noticeable sweetness. A blend of Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Syrah.
Diemersfontein Pinotage 2011, Wo Wellington
Wellington, South Africa$19.95
If you need a coffe in the morning, why not have it in your wine! This is the ultimate "wine cafe". Lots of roasted coffee bean aromas with bacon and chocolate. Some spice notes with a slight green, bitter finish. I enjoyed this wine a bit less than previous years because of the finish. However, this wine is always a hit with friends because it's just so unique.
Groth Chardonnay 2008, Napa Valley
California, Usa$37.95
This California chardonnay is so balanced. There's a great mix of oak, tropical fruit and minerality. All of them in great harmony. The finish is long and wonderful. I urge people who usually don't like "typical" California chardonnays to try this one.
Pierrel Les Oressences Brut Champagne
Champagne, France$42.95
A nice champagne but not my favourite. I prefer a bit more biscuit/toasty flavours personally. Those who prefer more of a citrus, mineral Champagne, this will be a nice one to have. I like the bottle.
álvaro Palacios Camins Del Priorat 2008, Doca Priorat
Spain$25.95
Very nice Spanish wine and for the money, a great value. You can drink it now and enjoy. It's a pretty, feminine wine with lots of fruit and a little bit of vanilla. I tried this wine with some co-workers, one male and one female. Us ladies loved the label, the male said he most likely wouldn't look twice at this wine based only on the label. After tasting it though, he bought a few bottles. :)
Devil's Lair Fifth Leg Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Margaret River
Australia$9.45
I tried this wine tonight at the Fifth Leg wine event downtown Toronto. Not as grassy as some Sauvignon Blancs. I could taste the Semillon (I really like this grape!). Pale colour, good weight, good acidity, slight bitter finish but still enjoyable. Cute label. I don't know if people will spend $15.95 for this with so many interesting whites out there at this price point. I'd give this one a try again.
Marqués De Cáceres Antea 2009, Doca Rioja
Spain$15.95
You get a lot for your money with this one. A delightful white blend of the Viura and Malvasia grapes from Spain. Lovely aromas of pineapple, citrus, peaches and melon. A nice, spicy finish from the oak. A yummy unique wine at a great price.
