She has completed the Advanced level with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) but has now decided to study wine making through the distance program at UC Davis California starting in January 2012. Scott Family Estate Dijon Clone Chardonnay 2010, Arroyo Seco, Monterey County
California, Usa$28.95
On the nose, lots of banana and peaches! The finish is soft with good length. I think this Chardonnay would appeal to many.
Vignobles David Le Mourre De L'isle 2010, Ac Côtes Du Rhône
Rhône, France$16.95
Sweet aromas of vanilla along with black and red fruits. Decent length on the finish with some bitterness.
Château De Montmal Fitou 2009, Ap
Roussillon, France$12.90
Cedar, herbs and some spice. Dry with bluish fruit characters. There was a bit of heat on it but it didn't dominate from the overall impression.
Red Rock Malbec Reserve 2010, California
California, Usa$16.95
Soft tannins, supple black fruits with hints of violets and vanilla. This is the first malbec from California to hit the shelves in Ontario. The grapes were sourced from various California appellations and blended with a small percentage of cabernet sauvignon and petite sirah. This is a juicy fruit-driven, easy-going red. Tasted September 2012.
Fuzion Chenin Chardonnay 2012, Mendoza
Argentina$7.95
If looking for a simple sipper on a budget. Medium weight, ripe yet borderline cloying. There are some juicy flavours of apricot, quince, and pear. Enjoy chilled. Tasted April 2013.
Day Trippers Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Australia$9.95
Fresh and simple. Zesty citrus with hints of herbs. Good length. Tasted April 2013.
Freixenet Mia 2011
Spain$11.95
An essence of youth and fruit. This is a juicy Spanish white from indigenous varieties of Macabeo, Xarello, and Parallada with a dash of Moscatel. Flavours of ripe stone fruits and honey will please for the price. Tasted April 2013.
Faustino V Reserva 2005, Doca Rioja
Spain$21.95
Wow! I don't think I've seen this much polarity in reviews! Perhaps John Szabo tried an off bottle. I put off tasting this wine for a while because well, I'm superficial I suppose and I HATE the label! I know to not judge a wine by the label but the label just made me shudder and I assumed the wine was no good. Bad me. I enjoyed this wine! It's a very nice example of a Rioja.
Springfield Estate Wild Yeast Chardonnay 2006, Wo Robertson
Rhône, France$20.90
Interesting wine to taste just for the fact that it was fermented using the yeast found naturally on the grapes. Lots of pineapple notes. This wine comes from South Africa.
Matua Valley Estate Series Paretai Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Marlborough, New Zealand$24.95
If you don't like that grassy Sauvignon Blanc that many associate with New Zealand, then you might not like this wine. Green pepper, zippy with minerality. Not my personal favourite from Marlborough.
