Quinta De Cabriz Colheita Selecionada 2015, Doc Dão

Super value here from the Dao. Red berry fruit, with hint of spice and a woodsy note. Not super complex or structured, just a delicious red to drink now or over the coming 2 years. Wood seems nicely dialed in. Tasted Feb 2019.

Babu Reserva 2016, Vinho Regional Tejo

A very pleasant, easy going Portuguese red. Despite short ageing in new oak, there is little interference from the wood in the fruity flavour profile. Nothing overly complex, this is nevertheless a charming red for near term enjoyment. Certainly ranks high on the QPR. Tasted Oct 2018.

Cantina Di Negrar Corvina 2016

Soft, simple red that is all about the red cherry fruit. Light, pleasant, with a bit of acidity on the relatively short finish. Chill this a bit and enjoy on the dock. Fine for the $10 price tag. Tasted July 2019.

Castillo De La Mota 2017, Do Rueda

Crisp, fairly mute aromas and flavours. Some citrus and chalky flavours. Nothing to get excited about but nothing offensive either. Perfectly decent summer sipper for a fair price. Tasted June 2019.

Carpineto Chianti Classico 2017, Docg

Medium bodied, with cherry/red currant flavours dominating with just a hint of vanilla. Fresh and lively, and though not overly complex, this hits all the right notes for CC. Representative and satisfying. Tasted Aug 2020.

Symington Altano 2016, Doc Douro

Fruity, forward, easy going are all terms that spring to mind. A bit of a meaty note along side the ripe, plummy fruit, but I often find that in Douro reds. Good value at $14. Tasted July 2019.

Basciano Chianti Rufina 2016, Docg

As John, David and Michael point out, this Chianti (from Rufina) is darker and riper than most. However, while flavours lean a bit more to the dark fruit spectrum, there is still enough Sangiovese character for Chianti lovers like myself. Good acidity and tannin on the finish along with a bit of oak, but nothing to detract. Fine value. Tasted July 2019.

Torressella Refosco Dal Peduncolo Rosso 2016, Igt

Almeida Garrett Entre Serras 2015, Doc Beira Interior

A bit blunt and unpolished, but there is alot of flavour for the money. Nice punchy dark fruit, a decent (if slighly astrigent) finish, but I rather liked this. You could do alot worse for $13. Agree with David, buy a few and see how they age over the next couple of years. Tasted Aug 2019.

Aveleda Fonte 2019, Doc Vinho Verde

Slightly fizzy, low alcohol (9.5% ABV), with 15 g of residual sugar. Sounds like a wine to be avoided....but, it is a decent wine, Simple, yes (it is only $12), but the sweetness is not cloying thanks to the crisp acidity, there are no off-flavours, it is pleasant. In short, it is as it is intended to be - a light wine for sipping (or gulping) without contemplation on a hot day without getting hammered (or at least, only slowly). Tasted Aug 2021.
