Famille Perrin Les Christins Vacqueyras 2021, A.C.
Rhône, France$25.95
Agree with David on this wine, definitely on the over-ripe side and oxidation is creeping in. Soft, over ripe, jammy. Atypical for the Perrins, and this wine is a rare miss for them, Drink ASAP, time will not help. Tasted Dec 2025.
Jeff Carrel Les Darons 2022, Ap Languedoc
Languedoc, France$17.95
Easy going, easy to like southern French red. Not quite as good as the '21 but ok value. Tasted Feb 2025.
Evel Tinto 2021, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$14.95
An underlying herbal note along some spice accents this juicy red from the Douro. Some cleansing acids and just enough tannin on the finish. Quite delicious. Hard to believe that this is still only $15. Simply a great value. For drinking over the next year tor 2. Tasted March 2025.
Gaba Do Xil Mencía 2020, Do Valdeorras
Spain$19.95
Strong herbal streak along side bright fruit. Mild tannin and a bit of bitterness on the finish. The wine grew on me with each sip. Tasted Mar 2025.
Tawse Unoaked Chardonnay 2017, Lincoln Lakeshore
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Crisp, citrus-driven Chardonnay here from Tawse. No great complexity, this is designed to be a simple sipper and succeeds. Ideal for the warm days in the months ahead. This wine worked superbly well with Chinese take-out. Tasted June 2020.
Passion Of Portugal 2016, Lisboa
Portugal$9.05
A simple, easy drinking red from Portugal. No great complexity or length but is still quite tasty. Red fruit, with woodsy notes that David notes, and a bit of residual sugar (but not off-putting). I'd have no problem drinking this any day of the week. And at $8 less a nickel, easy on the pocketbook. Tasted Oct2019.
Rocca Delle Macìe Chianti Riserva 2016
Tuscany, Italy$15.95
Simple, basic Chianti (non-Classico!) Riserva. Tart red fruit, reductive, a bit of slightly odd leathery notes. It's just ok. Tasted Oct 2019.
Bacalhoa J P Azeitao Branco 2017, Peninsula De Setubal
Portugal$8.95
A light, lively, easy going white from Portugal. Crisp citrus fruit, a hint of bitterness and no resorting to cloying residual sugar. Don't expect huge complexity or a long, lingering finish but do expect a very enjoyable and refreshing wine that sells for a song. A no-brainer to have chilled for those hot summer days on the patio. Buy it by the arm full. Tasted April 2019.
Quinta De Cabriz Colheita Selecionada 2015, Doc Dão
Dão, Portugal$14.95
Super value here from the Dao. Red berry fruit, with hint of spice and a woodsy note. Not super complex or structured, just a delicious red to drink now or over the coming 2 years. Wood seems nicely dialed in. Tasted Feb 2019.
Babu Reserva 2016, Vinho Regional Tejo
Tejo, Portugal$13.95
A very pleasant, easy going Portuguese red. Despite short ageing in new oak, there is little interference from the wood in the fruity flavour profile. Nothing overly complex, this is nevertheless a charming red for near term enjoyment. Certainly ranks high on the QPR. Tasted Oct 2018.
