Château Dona Baissas Vieilles Vignes Côtes Du Roussillon Villages 2007

Very dry, with intense notes of plums and slightly tart blackberries, and notes of herbs and pepper. Very typical of the Roussillon region and very well made....a food wine for sure. I get the impression that the wine still had more to give, so a year or two in bottle will bring out even more. Very nicely priced at about $15.

Ripe dark berry fruit, dry, but very approachable. In the background, notes of black pepper and herbs. Delicious Cotes du Rhone for summer drinking, with good complexity and length of finish at this price level.

A wine with some uniqueness. Certainly doesn't taste like anything I have had is some time. Certainly won't appeal to everyone but for the adventurous wine lovers, this is something well-worth trying, especially for the sub-$12 price tag. Quite enjoyable,

Bright, ripe red cherry fruit, with a pleasant tartness and firm acidity that I find so endearing in many Italian reds. Not often that Vintages offers Sagrantino Di Montefalco, and this one is a winner and at a fair price to boot. Drinking now, but no rush, this can hold for a few more years.

A very well-made Cab from the south of France, a great source of reasonably priced wines. Slightky herbeceous, but with decent fruit and fine complexity and structure for the price. Really shines with food. Very good value. Drink now or hold a year or two.

Di Majo Norante Contado Aglianico 2007, Doc Molise

This is simply an excellent wine. Excellent fruit, lots of regional charater and very good structure. Although one can drink this now, the tannin is fairly prominent and I should think that a few years in the cellar will really benefit this wine. Expect the warm character to really be enhanced as the tannin softens. Great value. Vintages, though I bash them frequently, have really come through with several wines in recent releases with fine regional character for under $20.

Di Majo Norante Sangiovese 2008, Igt Terra Degli Osci
Abruzzo, Italy$13.95
Clean, crisp red cherry fruit and fine acidity. Tastes more like Chianti than many Chiantis I've tried. Very enjoyable on it's own and an excellent food wine. Chill just a wee bit to bring the excellent fruit forward. At $13, a steal. Not a winery in Niagara can come even close to this for so few $$.

Trebbiano is widely planted in Italia and generally produces forgettable wines. While this is by no means memorable, it is a clean, well-made white with notes of citrus fruit, decent acidity and a good finish, Ideal for summer sipping (should summer ever arrive). Stellar value.

Decent fruit, with a bit of spice. Not particularly deep or complex, but good for the money. However, for a couple of extra dollars, Crasto is the better deal.

Spot-on Cotes du Rhone with plenty of ripe red fruits, pepper and herbs. Good complexity and structure for this price point. Really excellent value. drink now or hold up to three years.
