Helfrich Gewurztraminer 2010, Ac Alsace
Alsace, France$18.95
Hands down the best Gewurzt we've ever had. I've got he official go ahead to buy more. A wonderfully rich and balanced wine. Oh, and it's less than 20 bucks.
Closson Chase South Clos Vineyard Chardonnay 2011, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$39.95
I had a couple of cases of this wine aging in my cellar. My god it is ready and the nose is amazing. Great wine. Epitome of county chardonnay.
Domaine Acer Charles Aimé Robert 10 Year
Quebec, Canada$37.00
Drink it chilled after a meal the same way you would a sherry. I find the nose fairly muted but I love the maple and the palate. It's a dangerous after dinner drink.
Hidden Bench Terroir Caché Meritage 2012, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$44.95
This is an excellent example of what Ontario can produce in a 'perfect' year. The price is very reasonable for a high quality Ontario Bordeaux-style blend. Decant it and give it a try and prepare to be amazed. I have a few bottles of its big brother, La Brunante, which I am now even more excited about opening... in 2020 or so. This needs another few years of cellaring.
Anaperenna By Ben Glaetzer Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Barossa Valley
South Australia, Australia$65.00
Awesome.
D'arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2006, Mclaren Vale
South Australia, Australia$54.95
Opened one last night to celebrate an anniversary of sorts. The experts are right on this one. It is a very large Shiraz but it is not ready for prime time.
After two hours of decanting it tasted far better. Patience is a virtue.
Wegeler Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett 2004, Prädikatswein
Rheingau, Germany$19.90
First warm weather bottle of the year. Enjoyed this Riesling immensely. Very refreshing.
Ferngrove Shiraz 2007, Frankland River, Western Australia
Australia$19.95
Another great Shiraz for under $20! I've got the green light to buy a case of this today. At the rate we are going through this wine a case will last only 6 nights (well, maybe 6 Saturday nights).
Pirramimma Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Mclaren Vale, South Australia
Australia$23.95
This is an awesome, classic Cabernet. It's all there on the nose, through the body and on to the finish. I gave it an extra point or two simply for the value. I don't think I've ever tasted a better Cabernet under $25. I now have official go-ahead to purchase a case.
Alta Vista Atemporal 2007
Mendoza, Argentina$19.95
This wine is a fantastic value. A gorgeous, complex nose, rich middle with a wonderful finish. Probably the best wine under $20 I've ever tasted. [Note this review is posted in the morning, not immediately after consuming]
