Estate Hatzimichalis Chardonnay 2010 Bottle
Estate Hatzimichalis Chardonnay 2010
Greece
$14.95

I had the 2010 vintage, although the lCBO is restocking its shelves with the 2011.

As many others here, I was also impressed by this wine, and not just for the price. It took a little bit to open up, but I really enjoyed how subtle and soft it is. Those who don't like oaked chardonnay should give this a try as it is very tame without loosing the buttery, slightly smokey characteristics.

Tasted November 2012.

Dark, rich purple colour. A very nice wine. I appreciated the structure of this wine and how it all came together on the palate. Dark, fruit, a little spice, noticeable minerality, medium tannins and a medium finish.

I would support short term cellaring.

Abbona Papà Celso 2010, Docg Dogliani Bottle
Abbona Papà Celso 2010, Docg Dogliani
Piedmont, Italy
$19.75

This wine did not blow my socks off at first, but its subtlety and elegance won me over with time.

I paired it with mushroom truffle risotto as recommended, and it was great.

The colour is borderline garnet, a well-balanced mix of dark cherries, spice, flowers and wood.

I echo the note that the balanced acidity is well integrated on the long finish.

Great Pinot at the price. Clean, firm and nicely put together. May be able to cellar over the short term, but is drinking well now.

Château Lyonnat Emotion 2006, Ac Lussac Saint émilion Bottle
Château Lyonnat Emotion 2006, Ac Lussac Saint émilion
Bordeaux, France
$19.95

A value-buy Merlot-based Bodeaux. Medium body that is oaky, tannic and dustry, with notes of dried flowers and moderate dark fruit on the palate with a medium to long finish. It is deserving of an hour in the decanter or better yet, a little more time in the bottle to soften it still.

Clean, smooth and tasty. Not a lot of complexity, but a well made wine that is an excellent sipper or pair with food.

Emiliana Novas Petit Verdot 2011, Colchagua Valley Bottle
Emiliana Novas Petit Verdot 2011, Colchagua Valley
Chile
$15.95

Petit Verdot is not often done in such a restrained and approachable style.

A clean, balanced wine with floral notes, rich fruit and nice tannis, with above average length with nicely integrated oak.

I wouldn't think this would benefit much from cellaring, but will likely hold over a few years.

Excellent value.
