Bel Echo Pinot Noir By Clos Henri 2012
Marlborough, New Zealand$22.95
Cherry, plum and earthy, peppery spice grace this wine with a beautifully subtle and layered complexity, all over a racy backbone of acidity, astringency and soft tannins. Gorgeous mouthfeel, long finish with such great contrast between the flavour and "angular" (to borrow from the apt review above) bitterness. Loved this wine.
Lealtanza Reserva 2005, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
The brightness of this wine took me a bit by surprise but underneath the mouth watering acidity was a treasure trove of fruit and spice. Nice wine.
Tawse Estate Chardonnay 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$34.95
I liked the depth and balance of this Chardonnay and in particular that the oak was so well integrated. Lots of minerality on the nose along with stone fruits. It's quite silky on the palate, with wet rock mineral and nectarine flavours followed by a hint of sweetness that gives way to a very pleasing and mouthwatering acidity. Nice wine.
Tawse Quarry Road Riesling 2011, VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$23.95
Stunner. Green apple and remarkably pure citrus with a front end sweetness and a walloping crisp finish that lingers. The more I sipped, the more I liked. It also paired really well with our selection of fatty cheeses as well as will our turkey dinner.
Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2008, Mclaren Vale
South Australia, Australia$24.95
Gorgeously integrated wine here - seamless layers of berry, chocolate and eucalyptus. Silky mouthfeel with lingering and layered finish.
Quails' Gate Merlot 2009, VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$26.95
Amazing poise in this wine. Gorgeous layered nose of raspberry and blackberry and earthy spice with a touch of vanilla. The palate is silky but with concentrated berry, herb, and spice. It's very nicely balanced with a warm, lengthy finish of fruit and spice. The tannins are a bit green but it's drinking very well. I enjoyed with venison and pork tourtière and it was synergistic match. Great to see reasonably priced Canadian wines achieving this level of sophistication.
Domaine De La Côte De L'ange Châteauneuf Du Pape 2010, Ac
Rhône, France$37.95
Deeply aromatic and flavourful, smooth, balanced with a long finish. Satisfying.
Yalumba Viognier 2013, Eden Valley, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$24.95
Excellent. Boldly flavoured but incredible subtlety as the layers play out on the palate.
Luca Malbec 2009, Uco Valley, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$32.95
Inky purple color. Deep stewed fruit aromas framed with mocha and a bit of spice. Palate is silky smooth black cherry and chocolate. Warm, full bodied, well layered, balanced and with great lingering finish. Quite rich and delicious.
Finca Flichman Dedicado 2011, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$29.95
Beautiful wine. Intense fruit (plum, dark berry) with layers of oak inspired flavours on a great backbone of acidity and fine grained tannin. Big, full bodied, but smooth and refined with a long finish.
