K W V Cathedral Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Western Cape
South Africa$15.95
This is a very nice cab sauv for $15 - full bodied, black current, leather, earthy taste. Good steak wine, bought 3 more. 89-90.
Seghesio Zinfandel Sonoma 2014
California, Usa$29.95
tasted May 2018, with a bacon-wrapped, pan seared filet mignon. Fantastic. Nose of dark fruit and spice. Well developed flavours and strong finish. If I could change anything, it would be the number of bottles I purchased! Sadly only one, as this had legs for years.
Vineland Estates Dry Riesling 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$14.95
Top value Riesling. Citrus aromas and lively acidity.
Poeira Dusty 2010, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$16.75
Dusty is appropos. Dry and tannic, in the manner of a Barolo. This was good, but I really did not pick up any fruit notes. I think it may have benefited from another year in the cellar to round it out a bit. Definitely worth the discount bin price of $16.75.
Needs a salty steak to go with.
