Penley Estate Hyland Shiraz 2014, Coonawarra
South Australia, Australia$14.25
Fruity without being jammy. Nice complexity, well worth the price. Bought three more.
Tenuta Roveglia Vigne Di Catullo Lugana Riserva 2013, Doc
Lombardy, Italy$26.95
My first experience with this DOC, very pleasant. Flowery nose, complex fruit flavours but with a nice light touch. Bought two more on the sale rack. Roast pork in a fruity sauce was a nice pairing.
Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Shiraz 2013, Clare Valley, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$21.95
Concha Y Toro Marques De Casa Concha Carmenère 2008, Peumo Vineyard
Rapel Valley, Chile$19.95
A bit disappointing given the rating. Pleasant but not outstanding in my opinion.
Monte Pinadillo Crianza 2010, Do Ribera Del Duero
Ribera Del Duero, Spain$19.95
Wow. Classic Spanish beauty Blackberry and spice hit at the start, followed by a sandalwood and dark berry taste. Long finish brings it home.
Heartland Shiraz 2012, Langhorne Creek
South Australia, Australia$18.95
This was a dark blackberry, peppery offering that we enjoyed with a mixed grill. I will buy a second and put it away for a year or two, which should help to round it out a bit. Enjoyable.
Château Des Charmes St. David's Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir Droit 2012, VQA St. David's Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.95
I must preface this review by stating that I have limited experience with this variety. However I was not impressed. This had a green nose, similar to my Dad's home made wine from 20 years ago. The saving grace was that I only purchased a single bottle, contrary to the advice provided above. This was decent, but I feel I could have purchased a pair of similar quality bottles for the money I spent on this.
