Girard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Napa Valley
California, Usa$34.95
Nose is closed at first - but after about a half hour or so...(lost count) it opens up nicely - berries and cedar and alcohol.
Palate is med to full, and really structured, the tannis are strong enough to rip your mouth right off!
Classic cab flavours of dark berries, cassis and wood.
Finish is smooth but strong. I would say this is a pretty serious wine. No messing around.
Villa Maria Private Bin Pinot Noir 2009, Marlborough
New Zealand$19.95
Classic NZ Pinot flavours, a tad light bodied.
La Crema Monterey Pinot Noir 2013, Monterey
California, Usa$26.95
Meh, nothing special here. Plain and boring and a little hot.
Jean Paul Brun Côte De Brouilly 2009, Ac
Beaujolais, France$18.95
really light and not much to get excited about. Enjoyable plum mineral flavours, but nothing profound here.
Lealtanza Reserva 2009, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
Nice wine with some earthy notes to add complexity. Nice wine but a tad boring in my opinion.
Laurent Gauthier Grand Cras Vieilles Vignes Morgon 2014, Ac
Beaujolais, France$21.95
This is full bodied and packed with strawberry, violets, roses and wet soil ...aka mud. Loads of lush fruit burst from the glass, the finish is beautiful. This is really amazing for the price. Gotta love the QPR of Cru Beaujolais.
Domaine De L'herminette Grand Cras Morgon 2013, Ac
Beaujolais, France$19.95
This is a super high quality & super high class Beaujolais. This would impress the snootiest wine snob or amateur wine drinker all the same. In the beginning, the nose bursts fresh fruit puree (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries & loganberries). The fruit is complemented by a perfumed musk reminiscent of violets, roses, brown sugar, sea salt and hints of tomato plant...I'm not kidding, it's that complex. The palate is supple but with a beautiful finish. Wow at this price, it's Beaujolais at it's finest. Highly recommended!
Silverado Vineburg Chardonnay 2012, Carneros
California, Usa$38.75
Apple, pear, lemon, mineral, light oak and light vanilla. The palate drinks fresh with a real dry sensation making the finish fairly short. This is a hard wine to rate because it's high quality, but it is missing some key notes which ultimately hinder its performance.
Finca Los Alijares Graciano 2009, Vino De La Tierra De Castilla
Spain$17.95
Very intriguing and interesting nose - anise, herbs, spice, cola, eucalyptus, vanilla and ash. The palate if firm and it finishes with a sour tart edge.
