E. Guigal Gigondas 2018, A.C.
Rhône, France$47.95
Pop and Pour is full of game aromas with lots of red fruits like cranberry, strawberry, and cherry with hints of perfume, dried herbs, and black pepper.
With some decanting everything becomes subtle. The game aromas follow the palate along with the perfume, dried herbs, and red fruits. The 15% abv is really subtle until it isn't.
Diemersdal Reserve Pinotage 2021
South Africa$30.75
This one is quaffable and fruit-forward without being overwhelming. It has pleasant aromas of black cherry, fig, currants, perfume, cream, and strawberry pie. The flavours include cherry, strawberry, vanilla, and a hint of ash, with a Savoury and sweet, rather short finish. It boasts medium + acidity and soft tannins. Good stuff!- Oct 2024
Cape Of Good Hope Serruria Chardonnay 2019, W.O. Elandskloof, Overberg
South Africa$25.75
What a solid wine that's great with food (Salmon and pineapple Rice) at a great value. Aromas of cream, honeysuckle, grass, honey, and sour fruit. Fresh thirst-quenching flavours of tropical fruits, perfume, caramel, and lemon with nice minerals to finish off. Solid wine for only $25, put this in Burgundy and it's easily a $50+ wine
Castello Di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2018, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$30.95
Beautiful medium plus aromas of violet, cherry, wet tobacco, basil, dried herbs, and caramel.
Sweet yet savoury entry on the tongue; red fruit, sweet tomato, plum, and dried herbs. Long finish with medium plus acidity and soft tannins. Good stuff - Jan 2024
Domaine Anita Tres Vieilles Vignes Les Caves Moulin à Vent 2020, A.C.
Beaujolais, France$21.95
I didn't expect Gamay to be able to compete with Burgundy Pinot but here we are. The wine had aromas of pomegranate and cherry, which continued through on the palate, with a hint of black cherry and licorice. It was smooth and juicy. This might be the best Gamay I've had yet, and now I'm looking forward to trying the La Rochelle.- May 2024
Chanzy Le Bois Cassien Monopole Mercurey 1er Cru 2019, A.C.
Burgundy, France$35.25
Medium minus aromas and flavours of lemon, honey, white flowers, and melon. Cream and hazelnut also show up on the tongue. Long finish with age showing. I enjoyed the nose on this even though it was subtle- March 2024
Castello Di Bossi Berardo Riserva Chianti Classico 2016, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$38.95
Beautiful seductive aromas of violet, cherry, cassis, cranberry, and some earthy aromas close out. The palate is not as alluring with flavours of cherry, cocoa, and black fruit. Fine-grain chalky tannins with medium acidity. Quick finish. One bottle is left to see if this redeems itself.
Luce Brunello Di Montalcino 2018, D.O.C.G.
Tuscany, Italy$157.95
Aromas of cherry, raspberry, and flowers that seemed like they were sprinkled with baby powder, yes you read that right
Château Maucamps 2006, A.C. Haut Médoc
Bordeaux, France$37.95
Aromas of tobacco hit me like I just lit a big Arnold Schwarzenegger-style cigar followed by oak, forest floor, cedar, black currant, and molasses after some time. The palate is pure tertiary Notes of Leather, tobacco, clove, prunes, and iron. Also, a hint of cinnamon with a dry finish.
Marchesi Antinori Tignanello 2013, Toscana
Tuscany, Italy$124.95
Aromas feature a strong perfume bouquet along with ripe plum, iron, tobacco, oak, molasses, and some earthy notes. The palate required some coaxing. I tasted chocolate, black currants, tobacco, and dried herbs, with a long finish that reminded me of bourbon due to a menthol burn. However, after 90 min, I detected cassis and graphite on the finish, but the burn persisted. Allow a minimum of 2 hours for decanting. Tannins are not a problem. The second day, it didn't improve- May 31 2025
