Guigal Hermitage 2011, Hermitage
Rhône, France$82.00
Elegant and well structured syrah. However the oak and concentration mesh the nuanced spicy/meaty character and mask the minerality. Last wine tasted in a lineup of far bigger new world wines might have thrown me off. Good, but certainly not great
Clos Du Mont Olivet La Cuvée Du Papet Châteauneuf Du Pape 2006, Ac
Rhône, France$109.00
15.5% and you feel the heat. The fruit, mineral and savory notes are jumbled in a hot mess. Maybe a bad bottle, but it did not come across as such (and the SAQ reps at the vieux Terrebonne tasting did not seem to think so). That said, it has the substance and complexity of a serious wine
La Chablisienne Château Grenouilles Chablis Grand Cru 2012
Burgundy, France$98.75
Still young, oak is well integrated but present, green/honey/pear/nutty vanilla..complex aromas and rich but focused flavor. Excellent
Prà Monte Grande Soave Classico 2014, Doc
Veneto, Italy$36.95
One of the best Soave's i've had. Fresh apple pear and lemon with loads of mouth watering mineralty and acidity. Great wine
Dardi Le Rose Bussia Barolo 2010, Barolo
Piedmont, Italy$60.00
One of the better Barolo's (at this price point) I've tasted at the SAQ. All the classic flavours and aromas one expects from great nebbiolo are singing in harmony. Fantastic
Marchesi Antinori Tignanello 2013, Toscana
Tuscany, Italy$124.95
Savoury notes, leather and leaves, cherry and a hint of graphite , Smoke and mushroom. Classic flavors and aromas with a modern touch, but not overdone.
Hidden Bench Têté De Cuvée Chardonnay 2013, VQA Beamsville Bench
Ontario, Canada$45.20
Outstanding chardonnay with loads of ripe fruit and mineral notes. Lots going on and the oak is well integrated, but this will surely improve over time. Despite the concentration it is still a bit tense, but it is a bomb.
